I sent a resume to a place these days and HR seems to be fumbling around because nobody even knew there was an embedded linux position in the company not sure what to think about this but maybe it's kind of a bad sign

Like, I can see why someone would be mad at an interview, been there myself (no, I don't do webdev, why are you asking me webdev questions?), but I just shrugged and mentally noted that I don't want to work at the company, without sending dumb emails. something about nerds being spiteful insecure assholes

you're selling yourself short imo with the "I can't code full-featured apps", if you think it matters (it doesn't really) you should sit down and write an app for yourself just to get a feel of how a big programming project would go.

I feel like at this point doing a small app in flask http://flask.pocoo.org/ is easier than doing a thing in php now

The only negative comment I've received was at the most recent job that didn't like how often I was away from my desk. this is a weird conclusion that I got in recent years: it seems like a lot of bosses don't even really care about you being productive. they just want to have you around to feel good about themselves. like look at this room! full of educated people working for me! so cool!

It seems like you're letting a few mental health things dictate your life and you're never going to crawl out of the hole that way. pollyanna seems to have a recurrent theme of sabotaging herself, which can be hella frustrating for everyone trying to convince her stubborn mind. this time with the commute thing it sounded kinda classist so it did struck some nerves. but overall I think everyone is genuinely trying to help.

goondolences don't want to sound too pedantic, but I'm not saying to never hire juniors, just that maybe it's not a good idea to rely on hiring inexperienced people expecting they'll grow into the job they'll probably leave in 1/2 years and get a better job anyway

I unironically like the automated systems telling me I was filtered out of the process. last monday I received an email 4 in the morning telling me that I was out, it was pretty sweet. I don't like to spend hours on a coding test (which I thought I did alright-ish) and then get no responses from the company.

I did a test and it was just 2 questions on hackerrank but they were so weirdly written and ambiguous that I spent most of the hour trying to decipher the instructions. when I finally did it I couldn't finish them on time, it was too bad because the questions seemed pretty easy despite that.
