most people might expect to become a senior developer at some point instead of forever writing small changes based on what someone else has told them to do, but should we really be criticising someone for having a crippling lack of ambition?

from what i've seen a senior developer is still this. just gimme some more time i'll grab them titles.

I remember a viral vid of a professor who made his last lecture before he died of cancer. A big theme was achieving your childhood dreams. One of his life's goals to work as an Imagineer

I hope he realized before he kicked it that, while he got to indulge in a flight of fancy, real, desperate exploitation of labor is disney's real game

I know he didn't because he was a white carnegie mellon professor

is it bad that i don't feel sorry this guy died

If it’s a presentation for a work meeting, probably 3-4 hours for a 20-30 minute presentation.

If it’s a conference talk, my general rule is one hour of prep per minute of talk.

I haven't had to do an interview in over 13 years, but I would like to be employed somewhere in the near future. Is "Dear Hiring Manager" still the right way to open a cover letter?

Also, who the gently caress posts a job with a salary range of $35,000-135,000? There has to be a typo but where, specifically? Not that it matters, the posting was deleted and 135k is nowhere near enough for a 5x10 work week and requirement to be on call 24/7.

i would have noped out at "requires cover letter"

Still getting weird vibes for some reason because they cold called me via email (somehow got it) and still haven't asked for a resume. It is possible that I'm just unfamiliar with startups and this is normal behavior.

e: wasnt linkedin

One time a recruiter did contact me via linkedin but never asked for a resume. But all the interviewers somehow had copies of my resume. Turned out the recruiter just scraped my barebones linkedin profile, confusing everyone involved in the process.

yeah I'd say 50% - at best - of the rejection feedback I got this year made any sense at all, let alone being constructive

mostly you just have to accept someone didn't think you were right for the position and you're never going to find out why, easier said than done but that's how it goes

surprised you got any feedback.

i just interviewed somewhere and they gave me a generic "we'll be in contact with you soon". they are showing no signs of doing that. oh, i forgot to mention i applied to this same place a few years ago when i at least made it to their 6 hour take home test. submitted it and got ghosted.

it's me, i'm the rube.

why do recruiters ask for salary if the job posting already has a range in it? are they just hoping people might not notice that? or that there are suckers who give a low number?
