Speaking of subtle signalling, is this the sort of thing a company has three weeks to blow on because they are doing well, or because there is no business to keep them occupied? Hmm.

edit: I say as my google search opens up a giant maw and presents me a multi-hour coding test to see if I'm good enough for google.

have you been on the other end of the interviewing cycle? it's an unending stream of idiots who have no idea what they're doing with resumes that you would plausibly want to hire

i've worked with remote teams in budapest and kiev and as far as competence and english skills go, everything was 100% fine

what sucked was
a.) they were remote
b.) timezones

there's just not that big a difference between a farm league programmer in kansas and a farm league programmer in ukraine. foreigners are not magically stupid because they weren't born in the u.s.a

p.s. you can ameliorate factor "b" by looking for teams in south america.

edit: kiev not minsk, getting my post-soviet states mixed up

at my previous job, we had a bunch of contractors in ukraine that were excellent: perfect english, reasonably competent (better than most of my coworkers)

and then they disappeared for a month because they were in territory that got annexed by russia lol

What's the justification for two coding interviews by phone before an onsite with the same FANG company? Is this normal or should I ask the recruiter wtf is up.

What tells you that this is the same thing?

interviewer probably asked a stupid question, wrote useless feedback, or failed to write feedback at all

is dynamic_recast language trivia? reading about it it feels like it's pretty essential advanced c++ knowledge

i'm not looking for comfort, i want the cold hard truth. if i hosed up i need to know and embrace the job interview hell for a next time

do you mean dynamic_cast? because i have no idea what "dynamic_recast" means
dynamic_cast is somewhat esoteric (especially since lots of projects have rtti disabled), but "what happens when you give printf the wrong arguments" is perfectly fair game

startupland is from sunnyvale up to redwood city and san francisco in soma and whereabouts of market. not even burlingame. even seattle and east bay and austin and nyc and la is often more marginal than you would think. there are also like 6 neighborhoods in shenzhen shanghai and beijing (even like, tokyo and seoul and guangzhou and s'pore and hk surprisingly marginal) lollin at denmark

last company i was at octupled resume inflow by going from san mateo, right next to redwood city, to soma. i saw similar results to a company that moved from oakland to palo alto. hilarious. they should bash it all down and build 50 story soulless concrete apartments

(peep that american sv stsrtups location)

stops before atherton imo

I took two years of CS as a second bachelors before I dropped out because it sucked, and ended up at a bootcamp myself. I've been teaching this poo poo for like five years and I've met a number of people who are like, yeah I'd hire you, but we're (in the middle of being acquired/trying to reduce headcount/panicking at the C-level because our president is a moron/only hiring local to california).

like nominally I'm somewhere between junior and midlevel it's just a matter of getting to a god damned interview and talking to a human being about it

experience teaching at a bootcamp is going to be treated as worthless, because too many bootcamps pumped their hiring statistics by hiring students that failed to get a job to teach their next wave of failing students
