Sounds like it's actually a pretty major insurance company?

Sounds like Hinch is getting what he wanted to resign. More engineering help, more budget, better teammate (thats his buddy no less), manufacturer testing, etc. They are definitely putting together the pieces to try to consistently challenge for race-wins.

I do expect Wickens to be consistently faster than Hinch, at least on the twisties, once he gets a handle on driving IndyCars though.

This is true. I suppose in '93 after the first few laps literally all that happened was Paul Tracy passing lapped cars, followed by him wrecking, followed by Emmo wrecking.

I just don't get why that qualifies as "pack the loving stands" and Saturday's race with Rossi driving through the field twice was "bad".

Really I just don't know what Indycar could do. I'd love them to get more power again, but I don't think that would change the crowds at all. They're already the fastest cars that run on that track by a wide margin.

Need more Good ol' boy drivers with names like Ed Jones and Scott Dixon, not pansy furrin' names like Alexander Rossi or Josef Newgarden.

Think it'll be somebody with a budget who's likely to keep the car in one piece this month rather than it simply being the person with the largest budget.

In the short term lifting the blackout might reduce attendance somewhat, but it pays off in the future because you'll be exposing the race to more people (e.g., kids with parents who don't care about the 500) and building local interest in the race.

I can see how going to all those IRL 500s could turn you off to the race.

My favorite thing about watching old IRL races was seeing them proudly announce a sponsorship deal with "the biggest internet search company in the world", which was, of course, Northern Light. 2000 was a wild time.

I mean I was a pretty savvy internet user at that time and I had never heard of Northern Light until they sponsored the IRL.
