I mean, that new one has 3E in the LT. I suppose if the mounts are all very high it'd make a good 3 LPL carrier. Which is a decent build, not amazing but okay. Edit: yeah, looking at the 2E LT Dragon the third E might slot in right under the second. If so, a build like this with all three LPLs in the LT could be okay: DRG-1C

If i squint hard enough he wanted pinpoint range and then a streak 6 for light mech defense. Doesn't do it well of course. The biggest threat he offers is teammates doing stupid things to try and kill him. And boy do a lot of people want to blow his mech up.

It automatically turns everyone's mech into the stock config when the game starts. There was a group that would run stock matches every week, and I played for a few months. It was originally just a Dragon with a PPC instead of an AC/5, because 3025 is balanced (the PPC is lighter, just as accurate, and does twice the damage without needing ammo; granted it's 10x as hot but it's not like the Dragon is running hot, and ammo is a far larger liability than heat in an environment without CASE where a single ammo hit will take out your whole mech). This is cool because the PPC is much more of a signature Draconis Combine weapon and you'd think the mech named "Dragon" would be a) good and b) in tune with the Dragon faction's armament preferences. Eventually that variant became its own distinct chassis. Some famous characters drove this mech. Beyond that I have no idea why it's so popular.

Also, lore-wise, the Grand Dragon entered production after 3025 so it benefited from a lot of the tech advances that the older Dragon didn't, like DHS and an XL engine (IS XLs aren't suicide cubes in tabletop.)
