Surgery update: it’s been three weeks since my hip surgery and I still probably only have about 50% feeling in my dick. Whenever I get a boner it’s that pins and needles feeling all up and down the shaft which is a lot less fun than you’d expect.

My girlfriend's idiot (actually pretty smart, but enlisted and raised super conservative, so eh) nephew enlisted, finishes boot in a week or so. He's an 1100 occfield, Utilities, not sure which MOS yet. It's been 15 years since I got out. Is "try to get on a MEU" still good advice? Anyone here was a 11xx and got any advice? So far I laughed out loud when my GF read the letter about how he was shocked that a bunch of his fellow boots were idiots.

Just like before OIF/OEF, how many floats you've been on is a metric of whether that person tried to do poo poo while they were in. Whether it will actually help junior enlisted advance is a debatable but partying in lovely third world countries is usually a blast.

Yeah, I think is current plan is one enlistment then getting out, so I'm looking at it more from a perspective of "actually getting to do cool poo poo/go places" instead of playing stupid gently caress gently caress games in garrison, rather than "how does he optimize for 20-30 years."

Being on the MEU will be one of the less lovely deployments he could do. There is also always the chance of stopping somewhere really cool and getting a lot of time off there. Otherwise he can spend a ton of money on protein powder and go to the gym twice a day for seven months. Except the 31st MEU where he'd "deploy" to Okinawa for seven months and hop on a ship that might not stop anywhere for liberty.

Second day back at my unit from convalescent leave and I have to sit outside and escort the contractors putting together our new trailer building for 10 hours. Some new gunny decides the worst thing he's ever seen is the collar of my sweatshirt being up because it was cold and windy. 3 more months.

My unit has never needed my billet, but since they wish really hard that at some point in the next decade they'll need a whole section of SIGINT SMEs I just sit around doing nothing most of the day. Most weeks the only work I actually do is getting the mail on Friday mornings, the rest of my time is just spent killing time at my desk.
