After chilling with Aquas a bunch I want Gimmick to be my first speedgame (after completely failing at startropics). I've spent a couple hours every evening this week just trying to finish it casual and am up to the last area. This is gonna be a journey. The gimmick folks are all super nice though.

Today PJ started the Dragon View Grand Memory Clobber-rama, where he tries to get the wrong warp to credits on console. 9 hours of attempts every day for the week. It should be a good time. This is a glitch he famously found completely on accident while practicing the speedrun. It happens because the first boss sets a byte that doesn't get cleared, and when it is called later on, the game loses its mind and reads from random spots in memory. It's not as if there's regularly a bunch of chat here that would get drowned out by rando. I like watching rando races. Its a nice way to keep something you've seen 1000 times fresh. Boring speedruns hot take: Undertale. The GDQ run crowd was entertaining, mostly for the meta and crowd participation. Most of the run was just skipping parts using the same trick repeatedly and that doesn't combine well with a game thats leans heavily on plot to be engaging but is visually uninteresting. At least the music is good.

Discord is great for live chatting but its become a bit of a problem for archiving. In the past when everyone was on forums, someone would post a threat with a question and it was easier to follow up on a discussion you missed but now there's kindof an impermanence to it where if you missed a discussion 2 days ago its pretty much gone due to it being hard to search for terms everyone would use somewhere like a zelda speedrun discord. You get the same questions asked over and over and its hard to have an FAQ with links to common questions and their respective answers/discussion. Pastebin is permanent and easily shareable.

I've been liking bizhawk as a catch-all multiple system emulator. It uses the bsnes/higan core for snes. It doesn't do a bunch of fancy filters but is accurate, though needs a decent computer to run.
