Fresh Like Zafo posted:Thorgy wears dreads. That alone should make people dislike her. I'm late but I'm coming in for the Thorgy hate. Holy poo poo, I can't think of anyone's drag completely turning me off like her since...Jade Jolie. For similar reasons too, playing up this overly happy persona to compensate for a very dark inner streak. Petty and unlikeable. And I watched her performance 3 times and still can't hear Sissy That Walk. I would have never known that what she did unless the judge said it. All I want from this season is for Thorgy to get ripped to shreds for not cutting that stupid loving hair. I can't believe she came back with it somehow even longer after Michelle ripped her last time. Nooooo it's all Bob's fault. Ugh. Reddit folks asking why wasn't Thorgy given a real Diva like Madonna? Because Thorgy would have ruined Madonna.

Just about every word of Thorgy's mouth was painful to hear but TWICE cutting off the only judge that was going to compliment you was baffling. Thorgy thinking she had an alliance with Shangela when her and Kennedy are real life friends: hilarious. "I don't know how I'll react" I don't know, maybe with a small amount of class and dignity?

Poulpe posted:I'm just blown away by how perfect Ben has been this season. I knew she was amazing in her season and I remember being colossally peeved when Darienne Lake of all people sent her home. (Oh boy another week of frumpy dress sidekick!) Darienne Lake is really loving funny though. She absolutely stole the show from everyone on last year's live tour. I think Shangela dropped the ball in the challenge by allowing Chi Chi to come apart. I know you are not supposed to carry your partner but she did nothing to help Chi Chi land any jokes and she ended looking worse off because of that. I don't understand why she didn't try to be more encouraging and work out some material ahead of time to fall back on. Milk seems to be just burning all goodwill the fanbase had for her. When she started defending Thorgy and said she should have stayed instead, that's when I knew the bitch is full on delusional.

The Berzerker posted:I disagree with this so hard, Shangela was trying to be a good improv partner the whole way through. Kept setting Chi Chi up for a moment to come up with something (the guy asked how they met, Shangela is like "Oh I'd say it was fate, wouldn't you?" and leaves it wide open for Chi Chi) - she just didn't have the comedy instinct to come up with anything. I get what you're saying. Shangela did try to set up Chi Chi and she kept missing them. But my point was that they both know Chi Chi doesn't have much for comedy chops and lacks improv confidence especially. In that case, Shangela should do everything she can to elevate Chi Chi (even if by landing her jokes instead of trying to set up Chi Chi) because it makes them both look that much better. I don't think Shangela's character was that funny and that was not Chi Chi's fault. Ironically, Chi Chi got the only big laugh from their act without Shangela's help. Also I only watched this once so views might change on repeated viewing.

SUPERMAN'S GAL PAL posted:See, what I got out of RuPaul’s comments was his usual “drag is an illusion.” Trans people aren’t creating an illusion but living their true lives. Now, to me hypothetical trans person can also be a drag performer, but there we have Ru’s somewhat reductive concept of “drag” as an art form (she side-eyed the very idea of bald queens like Jujube a decade ago). I thought the same thing. I feel bad anytime Ru trips overhimself because he tries so hard to please everyone. But I'm sure I would feel different if I were the target of those words too. Possibly the biggest part of "traditional" drag is having to tuck your penis to create that illusion, right? If you don't have a penis, then you're kind of cheating at it in a way? Getting implants and plastic surgery is almost a grey area because you still gotta tuck? Plastic surgery doesn't equal wanting to transiton obviously. I'm just a straight white man trying to understand a world that isn't mine. I like to join the chat but only if I'm contributing in a good way so please let me know if I'm out of line Also, I would absolutely live for a straight queen competing because that would be like watching a person like myself. Except they actually had the balls to tape them down and go out and do it. I would not watch one minute of bio-queens. I did not even know that was a thing until right now and I'm not not sure why it irritates me so much. Edit: Drag King Race would be fantastic, how has this not happened? I would be really interested in a straight queen, not just because I'm straight and would likely be a fan but because I think the story would be interesting. Maybe it's not for RPDR just yet but I would watch a documentary for sure. If there is one place where a cis-male would likely face some form of discrimination today, it would be in the drag community? Obviously there are lightyears of difference between that and the type of discrimination that LGBTQ people face every second of every day but still. I can't imagine it would be all that easy to gain acceptance without putting in serious work. Maybe it would show how far we have come in terms of acceptance but on the other hand I can totally see it being taken as cis-males forcing their way into the only space they don't already dominate. It would certainly spur an interesting debate. Straight women doing female drag is where I would draw the line.

curiousTerminal posted:I dunno, I feel like a cishet guy could conceivably do it if it was for the same reason. Straight guys are just as tied down and defined by toxic masculine stereotypes as gay people, and drag could be a healthy way for him to explore his feminine side. It's all about intent, honestly. I was someone who was ruthlessly bullied and tormented for being "gay" as a child/teenager because I was very skinny, short, painfully shy and afraid to approach girls. I love drag, I've been a fan since season 3 and I have now have a supportive partner who also loves it. In fact, we met the night of Drag Race season 15 finale and watched it together as our second date the next night. She is very encouraging that I try out drag but I am not ready. I don't want to open any of those old wounds, but moreso I'm terrified that my very presence wouldn't be welcome. I think it's unfortunate that no matter how much respect I present in my character or to the venue and patrons that some people wouldn't want me in their space. If someone came up and said that I shouldn't be doing drag because I'm straight, I would probably never do drag again as well as never go to that establishment again for fear of embarresment. Edit: a man in drag is still a man in drag, why does it matter so much about what sex the person is that I put my penis in at home? Bliggers- fucked around with this message at 04:34 on Mar 9, 2018 |

Is Natalia Pliacam an incredibly horrible person to her follow competitors because: - he is (relatively) wealthy, arrogant as gently caress and doesn't know any better - he is the oldest and by far the least conventionally attractive person out of drag - some cultural differences I don't understand or - a combination of everything

Nihonniboku posted:Yes, Shangela was robbed. Once Ben dropped out, that was Shangela's crown for the taking. I'm not sure Kennedy was robbed, though. She should have been sent home long ago, and her nonstop spinning on that final lip sync was further proof that she didn't deserve the crown. It was very reminiscent of the Latrice & Kenya lip sync, Kennedy just had absolutely zero understanding of self-awareness in terms of the song. And the way she pulled her wig back so tight, matching the wig color with her makeup color made her look bald. Nihonniboku posted:Trixie won because of the combination of being a fan favorite, and the fact that people don't really like Kennedy. No matter the pity party that Kennedy threw for herself, winning the crown was never going to suddenly make her more appealing. Ru knows that. Here is some real talk. Kennedy is very good at drag, and a great dancer/performer but she just does not have "IT". Kennedy at her very best gets a meh out of me. She crushed her steps in Kitty Girl and it was just oh yeah there's Kennedy doing her thing. Put Shangela on that same stage and sure the dance steps aren't as technical but that bitch WORKS and leaves you wanting more. Kennedy's drag is just a little too safe, a little too outdated, a little too off from perfect to be crowned an Allstar. Also her whole strategy ended up being begging for the crown instead of proving she deserved it, not really the best look to present to the jury. Shangela should have won but clearly having to do the jury interview rattled her. At least it wasn't downright embarrassing and cringe-inducing to watch like Bebe's. I don't care if Thorgy was the only one to vote correctly, she is absolutely terrible. What a lovely finale. The jury interviews alone should have been an hour long.
