Been rewatching some of the older seasons with a friend. We just watched All Stars s1 ep 2, where the queens did a Laugh In style joke writing competition called Ru Paul's Gaff In. It's one of the roughest shows I can remember seeing. There are a few queens on that cast that are funny characters but not particularly good joke writers and the whole segment is cringe-city. It was hard to watch. The quality jump going between the current cast of All Stars in s3 and the competition in Season 1 is huge. That's not to say the queens in s1 are bad, obviously Chad is incredible, and I like several of the others, but drat, the season 3 lineup is so so strong. edit: I think having to write jokes is a much more difficult task than playing a funny character. I think it's easier for most to make a situation funny in the moment than to construct a solid setup/punchline that lands. I'd consider myself generally funny, but I can't tell a joke to save my life. Jolo fucked around with this message at 15:07 on Feb 14, 2018 |
