Yeah my credit score is fantastic, I just can't put money away towards a down payment fast enough to keep up with how quickly the housing prices go up because I'm too busy paying my landlord's mortgage

If Trudeau could do anything it would be actually reinstitute federal house building but that requires a tax base, institutional will, and frankly an infrastructure knowledge that we've farmed out to the lovely private sector (look at transit projects). Yeah, had he taken the housing crisis seriously when he first got into power, there could have been institutions or something built up but homeowners were his base then. Now it’s gotten so bad that “middle class” people can’t even afford a 1br condo without significant inter generational wealth transfer. That and millennials make up the biggest voting block now. So he acts like he wants to do something to get the vote, but like you said it’s too late and there are too many people in his way because of course he has done nothing to build a coherent movement that would support serious government action. Too bad politicians do not look beyond the next election, this was obviously on the horizon for so long for anyone not born into serious wealth.

Including future costs Canada has spent something like $70,000,000,000 on the F35 program and has in return received a grand total of Zero airplanes. Imagine the public housing that could have built. But hey at least now if I'm a good little paypig I'll be able to build credit for a house I will never, ever be able to afford

Using the $16 million the NS government has budgeted to build 220 new public housing units as reference for the same cost as the zero airplanes we received we could have built roughly 900,000 units of housing. Possibly more considering this is over two decades and construction was much cheaper before the pandemic began. For the same price as we've paid and will pay to buy some planes that might not even work in the Arctic we could have put at least 1 in 40 Canadians in new public housing. Probably more lile 1 in 30 or whatever depending on household size. That's cool though, keep on pouring money in the F35 hole whatever

Everyone knows housing is shelter, but in economic terms, houses are commodities and treated as such. It does seem like a pretty ballsy lawsuit, I have no idea if it'll succeed, but since we don't do seem to be able to do much with politics that benefit normal people anymore it does seem like people are pursuing actual political action through the courts whether it's social media or climate change or land claims.

Well my 4 day weekend got torpedoed by an imploding Federal government. Usually they wait until after budget day to go on the whirlwind tour talking up all their new spending but they're desperate right now. Everyone has been out this week and into next week trying to show a preview of the budget to get ahead of critics, so my Easter Monday I wasn't supposed to work is now hosed.
