Was hoping a white knight would come save ESM/Nissan but its not looking good. They already offloaded their transporters and trackside equipment. Anyone that wants to run the Nissan's needs to eat a $1m fee off the top. https://racer.com/2018/11/13/esm-reaches-crunch-time-in-efforts-to-race-in-2019/

The Kimoa Kid posted:Hold your complaints until they make you pay $50 to watch it on NBC Sports Gold You have to have an NBC Sports Network subscription to watch the stuff on the app, which to me is worse because it means you are paying monthly for cable or a premium streaming platform like Sling. If they let me pay $50 a year flat for IMSA (or IndyCar), I would.

I wonder if WTR would run 2 cars, seems like they got a ton of dudes wanting to run who would bring primo sponsor interest.

I like how adamant Wayne was yesterday that nothing was signed or official and how dare you ask him about these rumors sir good day sir. ...and today they confirmed it. I know they all do that, but its always funny to me.

As thought, ESM is dead. Despite Core previously announcing they were gonna use the Oreca next year... nope. Core bought the Nissans, is parking the Oreca, and will run 1 DPi next year instead. https://racer.com/2018/11/30/core-switches-to-nissan-dpi/ Kaiser will run in Juncos #50 at Daytona, with full timer Will Owen. https://racer.com/2018/11/30/kaiser-joining-juncos-for-rolex-24/ Madison Snow got upgraded in the driver rankings, so hes leaving IMSA. https://racer.com/2018/11/30/paul-miller-racing-splits-with-snow/

lemme jump in the middle of the drama with somethin cool, found some pictures of my dad in 1976 workin on F5000. He left Vel's in 1975 cause he was a hippy and wanted to be more "low key" than the corporate megateam. He scraped up some money with his partner Skeeter McKitterick and they bought Vel's Lola T-332 that they ran for Mario the prior year. The Lola's in Vel's glory, 1-2 on the grid at Laguna with my dad clearing in the background: He sweet talked Cliff Tufte, the founder/owner of Road America, into letting him use "the shed" by the Road America track entrance as a shop all summer. He and my mom worked on/ran the car with just the two of them outta this no AC shed (lol): Painted the car a very awesome 70s 2 tone blue with red pinstripe: Funds were, uh, short... so heres the pitequipment baby: The cars are complete death traps. Tiny tube frame and 5L, iron block V8s with insane power. Some more pics:

For those hoping DPi would be "unleashed" without P2, lol nah not really. Considering how mad Acura and Mazda were about costs, I'm surprised they are even getting these tiny adjustments, tbh. Weights cut anywhere from zero to 20kg, and some tiny power increases (mostly with more boost at the top end). And guess what, Cadillac got both the biggest weight cut and biggest power improvement. Great. https://racer.com/2018/12/21/roar-before-the-24-bop-tables-released/ also the roar list is out https://racerdigital.files.wordpress.com/2018/12/2019_IWSC_Roar_Provisional_EntryList.pdf

It seems pretty certain that they will break the all time lap record in quals this year. Yeah, the GTP record. They weren't too far off before, but the Michelin rubber is going to put them over the top. All time track record is P.J. Jones in the 1993 AAR Toyota Eagle Mk III at 1:33.875. Bomarito in the Mazda and RVZ in the #10 Caddy set near identical 1:34.534's in practice (surely not being very careful not to show too much of their hands, no no), and they will easily pick that much speed up in quals. Thats gotta be one of the oldest track records in the world for a track with active pro events.

I mean Subaru has more performance cars on sale than Acura. And the same number as Nissan.

an oddly awful oud posted:True but Acura seems to actually be pivoting back to a sporty, performance image with their new marketing. They're actually trying to sell the new RDX by invoking the original NSX and Integra Type-R in commercials. And they're also advertising the new NSX pretty heavily. It's really quite silly but Acura's been languishing for years now and this seems to be their strategy for the time being to get people thinking and talking about them again, and a DPi program with one of the biggest names in American motorsports is right in line with that. Subaru on the other hand is vacuuming up US market share with their current marketing and vehicle offerings, so it seems a little weird to suddenly want to spend millions on a motorsports program for the sake of exposure for a nearly-afterthought sports coupe that's reaching the end of its life cycle very soon, or thinking that it will somehow bring the motorsport halo to a bunch of wallowy, extremely underpowered crossovers that are already selling fantastically anyway Sure I get that, i was more just pointing out that racing programs aren't really a rational expenditure in the first place. Like Ford advertising a car that hasn't actually been for sale for years. For the record, I highly doubt Subaru would make a DPi team, just based on their general lack of motorsports interest stateside (but it would definitely be cool if it happened) If anyone fits the bill to me lately, its Hyundai through their Genesis brand.
