This game is a lot of fun. Last night, the galleon I was on:

- Sunk a galleon that attacked us as we minded our own business. They grabbed a chest off our ship and we made them pay for their hubris.
- Sunk another galleon that attacked us as we left an outpost (??).
- Drew the hot white anger of a sloop that had a ton of treasure on it before we raided and sunk them. He used a whole lot of nasty slurs so it’s like we were doing the world a favor.
- Harassed a galleon at a skull fort, distracting them as they finished off the boss so one of our players could steal and hide the key. Came back a few minutes later to collect all the booty.

It’s really good to catch up with old friends and be dicks to pubbies. Also, combat driving a galleon is my new favorite thing.

The game rewards opportunism. Cruising around and getting chests/skulls until you see a boat you want to plunder (or get away from, now that you’ve been collecting treasure). If all you want to do is fight other boats, the player density might be disappointing, but I’ve found the number to be pretty spot on for ‘Ooh... you guys want to go mess with them?’.

I do wish there was a bit more incentive for exploring non-quest islands and the waters around them, since exploring the first sandy uncharted island was *magical* but there was nothing to be ‘gained’ from the stop.

Today: won skull fort, fought kraken and lived, drunk-drove a galleon into an outpost

Game good

Our crew got accused over voice chat of aimbotting and otherwise cheating by some sloop that didn’t have their lives together. They were *shocked* that our galleon got the drop on them in Shipwreck Bay and we pvped our way to victory, taking their treasure and quest skulls before sinking their ship.

Did they think a well-crewed galleon couldn’t enter the rocky area? Did they know that it’s possible to successfully hit other crews with guns and cannonballs? All signs point to no.

Me and friends on a 3-person galleon take out a sloop at a skull fort, finish the fort and take our winnings. A galleon comes and handily sinks us and takes our stuff as we're making our way to the outpost. We respawn and make our way to a voyage island, since we can see the galleon already parked at the outpost off in the distance. While we're on the island, we see the galleon coming straight for us, and all decide to get drunk, wave, and play shanties. The boat is empty and we haven't dug up any treasure yet.

The guys come over the chat and say this island is their last souls quest before they make pirate legend. We hang around playing supportive music (and keep an eye out for gunpowder barrels- none around), and they place some mid/low tier treasure from their hold on the beach for us and apologize for the earlier piracy. With an invite, we follow their galleon back to the outpost as they sell their skulls and open the pirate cave. We sell the remaining trinkets they left on board their boat while we wait. They come back out and show off their new outfits and ship and they were so excited, it was just cool and fun :3:

Game good.

wtf is this poo poo?

Oh, yeah, absolutely. It was our major failing of the evening. One of our team was super curious about seeing the legendary portal and convinced us to stay chill, since we won’t be getting to legendary any time soon.

Surprised the heck out of a sloop by plowing our galleon right through the arches in Thieves’ Haven last night. The sloop crew had hunkered in there and were yelling over voice chat to each other- one had manned an island cannon, the other stayed on the sloop- ‘What the- they’re coming in! They didn’t sink! poo poo poo poo! :derp:

Dropped off two crewmates who promptly killed and sank them, then took our time looting, light repairing, and finishing our quest there. Right as we were pulling away in our galleon, their newly spawned sloop rounded the corner of the island and immediately tried to turn tail, not expecting to see us there. They didn’t make it.

Doing dumb sailing moves in a galleon is very good and fun.

Got the bright purple sovereign hull and sails and flyin’ that beautiful rainbow flag my ship is majestic.

Man, having your sailing together on a galleon is kind of a win button against pubbies. Got attacked by a couple galleons while we were looking for the solo thrones last night and we just wiped the floor with them.

One of the boats was confused because a couple crewmembers thought we started it- one of the guys kept yelling ‘no! we shot first!’ so we let him die last. Granted, we would have started it, but someone let off a shot right before we got in a perfect position to just wreck them with cannonballs with no retaliation so per rules of engagement we were blameless.

And since Loot while lucrative, isn't essential to the gameplay, it makes loosing some/all of it not that huge of a deal as long as you get a epic tale out of it. :pirate:

I really enjoy that loot and death are pretty inconsequential in this game. It makes it more fun to just try to pull off dumb moves, futz around, and not worry about ~my progress~.
