Iracing and project cars 2 work great in the Vive. I think they're rift compatible too but double check.

Iracings menus are not setup for VR at all. Very serious business no fun allowed sim.

Pcars is more arcadey but still leaning towards the sim side. Also you can get out of your car and walk around it if you have the room.

Dirt rally is loving sweet if you're into rallying and enjoy swearing at your computer.

I've played with a live co-driver before and it was rad. Had a buddy come over and took turns being driver and co-driver after making our own pace notes.

A good racing wheel feels like a must for this, it was tricky as hell to get throttle control right with the old 360 controller.

Can confirm the wheel part. In fact, rapid steering inputs during a rallycross race fried something in my Thrustmaster T500RS, and the wheel shut down. It works sometimes, as long as I keep any rapid countersteering inputs to a minimum.
Also, it turned out that this a known problem and Thrustmaster wants me to pay $100 for a new part and shipping :saddowns:

I've been smashing those with a R35 GT-R with a drift tune, of all things. 900-something HP. And I still suck at drifting with it. I'm just not getting the hang of it. It may be the tune, which was 5-star, but it's more likely me not doing it right.
The tuned Audi R10 is pretty good at going fast, too.
I haven't looked online yet, but any tips for "how to drift". I'll try your tip on the 22B STI when I get a hold of one. Your tip about the private online roam already helped me get through one of the average speed zones without having to dodge the goddamned drivatars. It was a dirt road, so none of the NPC cars venture down it.

Something fun is that, because I played previous Forzas, the game gave me an NSX (the original), an R10, and something else. The fun part is that it's given them to me every time I've gone back to the original event the first time in a session. I now have 3 of each. I guess I can auction the spares off or something?
On a side note, the NSX drives really well stock!

The recommendation of the 22b was more "Hey, I've got this and it works well for me". A good portion of doing the drift zones in an awd car is using the throttle to keep up your angle and trying to keep the car from suddenly regaining grip when you don't want it to. I ain't Dai Yoshihara, but I can sometimes get stuff sideways.

The awd stuff is also just for 3 starring the drift zones. I'm still working on a rwd RX7 FC drift tune for my own loving around. The Twerkstallion makes it a little easier since it has the most steering angle in the game, but I'm doing both that and a standard rx7.

That 22b is legit. Thanks for the heads up, used it to 3 star all the drift zones.

Pretty sure that I don't have traction control turn on, given how many time I regularly loop the car and/or sit going nowhere in a cloud of smoke or dust.
Related: A Holden FX Ute with 1016 HP and AWD is an absolute ball to drive. If I could figure out how to keep it from upshifting, I could probably go sideways everywhere, forever. Scary fast. It will also do the patented AWD donut where it pretty much just rotates in place.

Nice barrel roll, by the way.

Oh, god yes, steering. Sometimes it feels like the damned cars will only turn the wheels like 10 degrees. I'm sure I'm just understeering, pushing like a beast.
I'm pretty sure it's me and not the cars that can't drift. I should find a tutorial or something. I was able to get that FX Ute to drift OK sometimes, even without the e-brake, just because 1,000 HP in a pickup truck. Sounds amazing too. Supercharged LSx, to my ears.

I was gifted by Turn 10 a Lambo LP500S, a Lambo Huracan HE race car, a Turco? Funky off-road racer, and a Holden Torana A9X. Just checked my messages for the first time since I installed, and there they were.
Also, the stock Ariel Nomad is a blast off road, and actually drives pretty well on road.

And I just barn-found a Holden Sandman!
Got the '70s Holden Monaro GTS a while back, the FX Ute, A Maser A6GS, Jaaaaaag Mk II, Ferrari Dino 246 GT, Lambo LM200, Toyota FJ40, R33 GT-R, Meyers Manx, Ferrari 166MM Barchetta, and the aforementioned XB Falcon. I've only got like 3 more to find, including the Reliant 3-wheeler and a Charger Daytona.

The car I couldn't remember that the game keeps giving me as a reward for playing the original FH, Forza Fast and Furious, and Forza 5, was the 350Z. I have 3 each of the Z, NSX, and Audi R10. I tuned one of the R10s up and it's pretty fun.

the trick to drifting in forza is to turn off traction control AND use manual clutch

forza's idea of a clutch is to tap L1 and it automatically dumps it. if you don't change gears this causes the wheels to spin and with a high HP car you can even initiate a drift like this off the line in loving 5th gear

do a little scandinavian flick with it and you can just mash on the gas pedal all day for easy 3 stars.

when you switchback and want to drift the opposite direction let off the gas then clutchkick again and with some practice you can scissor your way left/right though any zone and traffic

basic tuning:

1) toe/cam out the front
2) for awd cars set most of the power to the rear
3) set the differential to 100% acceleration and even 0% deaccelration if you are still having trouble as this basically simulates welding nuts and bolts into your diff to fully lock it which is the generally easiest way to drift until you learn proper technique or have too much HP

the exact numbers are personal preference and really this is all you need to drift any car in the game. if you waste enough time drifting you can actually take any stock car and 3 star a zone with a high entry speed.

all the advanced suspension, gear ratios and tire pressure bullshit is just for if you want to get on the top of the global leaderboards and in Horizon 3 its all about AWD. in Forza 7 there is a very chill hopper where the only restriction is RWD and this is the best place to get tandem practice in practically any videogame becauas its very active and the players tend to be pretty good at cartoon videogame drifts

the BRZ is a poo poo racecar yet at the same time is probably the coolest non-Nissan drift platform right now imo. i'm glad it got shoehorned into practically every game in recent years, even Project Cars. thank god it wasn't affected by the bullshit no Toyota sportscars thing. lol if it shows up in a car pack down the line with the Trueno and whatnot

but yeah, you'll spend a lot of time redlining when drifting so an automatic would naturally try to shift up or down and gently caress it up

the best thing to do is skip 1st and lock it in 2nd or 3rd gear. with TCS off and a locked diff you won't even need the clutch unless you want to initiate immediately or are losing momentum

a cool thing about videogame drifting is you can slam shift up and down at any time no worries so if you see a big wide turn you can try jumping up to 4th and sometimes even 5th to push through it without being a danger to yourself or your wallet

Watched a couple of videos yesterday evening on drifting and setup for drifting that said pretty much the same thing. Trying to do it in auto was my biggest issue.
I've not been brave enough to try the clutch yet, but did set to manual, and swap clutch and handbrake, so now the handbrake is LB, and clutch will be A when I turn it on (the idea there is you can mash both A and X or A and B to up/downshift. The game appears to not be picky about timing on the clutch.)
I turned off TCS (which I had no idea was on. I mean, on a high horsepower car I could spin the hell out of the tires for days... but it was on.) Stability control is off. ABS still on because I'm a pussy.
I tweaked my Holden FX ute down to 800 HP or so, still AWD, but 80% rear bias, soft rear springs and sway bars versus the front, a tiny bit nose high, but on the bumpstops otherwise, a bit pof toe out, 1.5 negative camber, 6.5 caster, locked rear diff (100% both ways)... and I'll be damned if that fucker won't drift! Hell, it's hard *not* to drift with that setup and that much HP. I can usually get ti to drift all the way around a roundabout several times before I lose the drift (or hit a car...) It needs more steering angle, and might actually drift better as a RWD only, but it's hilarious drifting a mint green '50s Aussie ute all over the map.

Still getting used to shifting. Forget to do it every so often and bounce the rev limiter. First gear is useless with 800 HP. Start in second, or 3rd. Drift in 3rd fro tight stuff, 4th for more gentle curves.
I may go ahead and pay for the Hoonigan car pack just to get the TwerkStallion FC RX-7, because it's got actual insane drift spec steering angle. More than anythign else, apparently. Also, Hoonicorn. Speaking of Hoonigan, I tried one of the custom Bucket Lists where you hoon the Hoonigan Escort Rally around the construction site, and that little bastard is a right handfull in the dirt. I couldn't keep it pointed where I wanted to save my life.

Also, barn found the Holden Sandman and the Reliant Regal last night. I hope someone has done the Mad Max mural livery, or at least the factory mural for the Sandman. Looking forward to rolling the Reliant on its side repeatedly. Do they drift?

also @Elmnt80 i uploaded a stock engine drift setup for the BRZ in Forza 7 - all weight reduction and the suspension is setup to comedy option extremes so you can stack HP on as you see fit until it becomes unwieldy. just search "StockEngineDrift" or tunes by BreakSet
