I didn't actually see the thread till now and while I fell off the first one pretty early, I REALLY enjoyed it for what it was and this announcement is one of the most pleasant surprises I've had this year. Very much looking forward to meeting new, exotic spacecraft so I CAN RAM THEM :orks:

I hope they go for a DC like structure on the campaign, or atleast more than one race for the campaign.

12 factions is ambitious. I hope they pull it off.

A big problem with BFG1 was that when they added factions they weren't very well balanced.

This is looking really good. I hope they slow down the combat just a bit though from the first game.

It looks like they are keeping the same engine and a lot of the old models over from the first game as well, but i do not see this as a real issue as the first game was quite good and it doesn't need an upgrade engine-wise.

This way they can properly expand the rosters and add more content which is what was missing from the first game.

I'll be happy if it's just game 1 plus more and better fleets, better balance and fixed multiplayer tbqh

when the first game came out i was a little tight on money and didn't want to buy it right away. by the time i had money and remembered that i wanted to buy it, it looked like the multiplayer scene was already on the rapid decline, so i didn't bother.

i'm excited to buy the second one at release this time around, because it looked fun as hell

e. A whole lot of gushing but the main takeaways are:

- battles will be twice the size,
- the UI has been updated to make ordering larger fleets easier
- The campaign will have a total war-esque grand strategy layer
- Multiplayer has been completely overhauled. Everyone will have access to all the ships but the level of the match determines how many of your persistent levelled up ships you can take.

It's basically everything I wished for.

Really, the only thing remaining on my personal wish list is that in addition to story campaign(s), they could also have a Dark Crusade style galactic conquest mode.

The first game was basically the surprise breakout star of the year for me. Tiny studio with a frankly not too impressive track record, given a fairly big and highly anticipated IP, and against all odds they delivered a perfectly fine and really fun game right out of the box and even had pretty good post-release support on top of that. Sure, the MP balance was kind of wonky at times, but even that worked quite well more often than not. So yeah, a sequel that's basically "Don't gently caress around with what works, instead add more of everything!" is exactly what I was hoping for.

That said, I do wonder how they're gonna try and adapt Necrons. From what I remember, in the original game their very concept was "Overpowered to gently caress, but you'll still win if you so much as scratch their paint."

This is mentioned in the video above: They are still OP as poo poo, they will hit hard and even regenerate themselves (living metal) but their ships are obscenely expensive so you cannot field as many ships as the other races

I am insanely hype for this. I had tons of fun playing multi in the first one and makeing people rage with Eldar Corsairs.

Picking a race to try first will be hard though.

So what's the appreciable difference between Corsair and Craftworld Eldar? Outside of the latter not really having much of a model line from what I can tell.

Craftworlds are a little more durable, a little less maneuverable, and better at boarding. They're the legit Eldar military as opposed to pirates.

Dark Eldar are even more fragile and more maneuverable.

The big question is going to be how the Necrons are implemented. The Necrons in BFG were hated because they played a completely different style of game than everyone else - you were expected to lose three or four ships for every Necron ship you destroy and price values were appropriate to that.

In terms of ship capabilities they are quite similar, though the Craftworld Eldar get some more modular designs with interchangeable weapons, and they use smaller destroyers as their escorts. The main difference is that Craftworld Eldar get access to Ghostships, which are basically nearly-empty vessels controlled by spirits. Those are much hardier than the average Eldar ship (similarly resilient as a light imperial cruiser), but still have the same mad maneuverability and firepower as normal. In return they are quite a bit more vulnerable to being boarded, since there's barely anybody around to actually defend the drat thing. That makes Ghostships pretty good frontliners to draw your enemy's attention while the rest of your fleet goes for the flank.

Additionally, Craftworld Eldar get a few additional goodies in terms of upgrades, such as particularly powerful boarding parties or stuff specific to one particular Craftworld. Most of those were already available to the Corsairs in the first game, so it's anybody's guess how much they'll split those apart again in this game.

I'm super psyched. The first game was a lot of fun. I can't wait to get to play new races- I really had hoped Necrons and Tyranids had gotten added in the first game and I'm happy they are present in this one.

Oh god.

Also, almost 3 months later we get a FAQ!:
https://forums.focus-home.com/topic/5332/answering-your-frequently-asked-questions/2

Heres probably the most important tidbits:

quote:

Which factions will we see within the campaigns as enemies and as playable races?

We currently plan for the Imperial Navy, the Necrons and the Tyrannids to have a playable campaign at launch.

How large will the controllable ships be?

Very large ships, such as the Adeptus Astartes' Phalanx will be playable.
