I've had a migraine and have been vomiting all day, so I felt like poo poo during this draft and it did not turn out how I would have liked... so tell me how lovely my team is! I realize the pitching is... not good. I'm gonna be hunting for saves on the wire. I told my buddy I'd do this draft with him, but I really just didn't care about this draft at all so I did things I normally wouldn't do, and I messed up in a few places. It's probably not as bad as I think it is. 12 team h2h 5x5

Here's ESPN 12 team roto auction. I'm actually pretty pleased with how this went; I punted pitchers hard but wound up with something reasonable. I feel like I could move an OF for an SP, any thoughts?

Jose Martinez is nowhere near guaranteed playing time (I'd be surprised if he gets 450 ABs) and Brantley is made of glass.

You're right, but everyone's OFs in a 12 team league with 5 OF slots are pretty rough. My general experience is that OFs post-draft are at kind of a premium when some guy realises his #2 is melky cabrera or something so I'm hoping I can snag a bargain on a decent SP in exchange for Yelich or Cespedes. Former Elite Superstars Felix Hernandez and CC Sabathia are on waivers though.....

obp league, we also count slg. $225 budget. keep one: olson at $5 this year, $10 next bird at $5, $10 next k davis at $13, $20 next i think i know who i’m going with, but curious what you all think

I'm going Krush there, depending on team composition. He's gonna hit 35-40 HR. I think Bird is going to be a stud, so keeping him at $5 is a gamble worth taking, too.

assumed keepers: bryant 40 betts 40 kimbrel 9 acuna 5 c taylor 5 i would expect bird to go for around $10-$13 in the draft, davis around $16. it’s why i lean toward bird between those two. but i honestly think olson is the better hitter of all three. highest avg exit velocity (6th highest in the league, davis 9th), no injury history whatsover, pedigree of power and patience. maybe i should let c taylor go and pick two of these guys, but man, he looks real good too, especially considering the death of sb. he’s secretly incredible with sustainable peripherals ugh

I got Matt Olson and Matt Chapman confused and thought Olson had the hand injury. Given those guesses on price, I would switch my vote to Olson or Bird, maybe even leaning Olson? I'm also a big C Taylor fan, so I wouldn't say drop him for either of them.

Who knows where he'll bat, but it may be in between Stanton and Judge or one of them and Sanchez, which is a pretty great place to be for a whole host of stats. It's a very righty-heavy lineup, so he may work himself into the heart just to break it up. He shouldn't sit against lefties. I know it seems like there's a perennial "He's gonna get platooned!" tag attached to him but they let him bat against Andrew fuckin' Miller in the ALDS last year and he took him deep. There was lots of concern about Didi's ability to hit lefties but the Yankees just let him keep getting PAs and he raked last year. More importantly, the Yankees don't really have anybody I see as an "everyday replacement" for him. Lind is also a lefty, and I don't think they'll want to carry Tyler Austin on the 25-man since he's 1B only and they have more flexible bench guys around. The biggest thing with Bird is if you think he'll finally have a healthy season. I don't see anything but an injury really loving with his value this year, the Yankees want him to be The Guy at 1B.

So I am doing a h2h points league on ESPN for the first time in 15 or so years. I need some basic info please. So if I understand this right it will be like fantasy football and the team with the most points at the end of the week wins right? Also how will the day to day lineup stuff work? The Settings says "Daily - Lock Individually at Scheduled Gametime" so I can change my line up every day and get the points from the locked in players, but if I have a guy like Ian Happ who is listed at 4 different positions does he have to be in the right slot? Like If I play him as a 2B but Maddon starts him at CF will I be out luck that day? And what does game played maximum mean for pitchers? It is listed as 12 games started. Is that during the week only 12 games can be started by my Ps all other started games will not count towards my points? And if anybody has for fun league they need a extra for I would be down. Thanks in advance!

Roster locking generally means you can't make add/drop decisions once the first game of the day starts. Individual players already on your roster can still be moved around. And no, you don't have to guess where Happ will be playing, as long as he's starting on your fantasy team. That's what makes guys with multi-position eligibility so valuable. You should ask the commissioner of your league for the details on stuff you're unsure of, though.

Yahoo seems to love Chris Taylor (at least in their "this league's settings value" ranking) while ESPN isn't so bullish. I wound up taking him in this first draft of the year, trying to see how things would go in a league that actually matters: C: Manny Pina 1B: Ryan Zimmerman 2B: DJ Lamahieu 3B: Jose Ramirez SS: Chris Taylor OF: Nelson Cruz, Domingo Santana, Tommy Pham UT: Eddie Rosario, Matt Olson BN: Yoan Moncada, Matt Kemp SP: Chris Sale, Corey Kluber, Kyle Hendricks, Garret Richards, Mike Clevinger, Michael Fulmer RP: Chris Devenski, Chad Green, Josh Hader, Carl Edwards, Emilio Pagan Overall pretty balanced with no real standouts on offense. Counting stats may be middle of the pack. Top of the line ratios and strikeouts- just need to scour the wire for saves

In H2H, the more categories there are, the more I devalue the category. I play in a 7x7 where I physically go in and pull the EV of steals out of their fangraphs projections to rejigger the rankings (after weighting the batting average) to make my own projections I call it MASHERS (marginalize all slap-hitting, extraneous running specialists )

So if I understand this right it will be like fantasy football and the team with the most points at the end of the week wins right? Hello fellow ESPN points player! You have found the best fantasy baseball format. Points leagues value players fairly close to their real life performance, which is why I like it. Unlike categories, you compile points regardless of how they're scored, so your strategy shouldn't account for any specific category (ie, steals). You also get points for good things like walks and extra base hits, unlike obsolete fantasy formats that reward poo poo like batting average. Lots of people aren't quite used to points formats yet, so there's usually some good value in the top and middle of drafts. My normal points strategy is to target OBP guys, and let the rest of things fall as they will. The last several years in my BIG MONEY league I've drafted both Votto and Santana which has consistently been a good thing. Pitchers in points leagues are even less valuable than their roto counterparts. I used to target ACES high in the draft as someone like Randy Johnson could singlehandedly win you a league, but pitchers like that don't really exist anymore. That said, the last couple of years I've gone back to using first round pick on an elite pitcher, as they almost always lead the league in total points (this year and last I drafted Kershaw with my first) and often fall to late in the first (Kershaw went to me at 10). Target high-K, high IP starters. Outside of finding a good #1, I'm of the opinion that pitching can pretty much be covered by waivers and relievers. I drafted like 5 closers for the rest of my staff, and will stream the remaining 3 SP spots. 2 start SPs are a good place to start with streaming. bewbies fucked around with this message at 15:24 on Mar 7, 2018 |

Tue, Mar 6 Rangers signed RHP Tim Lincecum to a one-year, $1 million contract. Advice: The deal was agreed to last week and then finalized Tuesday after Lincecum arrived at Rangers camp in Arizona and passed the necessary physical. The veteran right-hander didn't pitch anywhere professionally in 2017 and posted a hideous 9.16 ERA and 2.37 WHIP in nine starts with the Angels in 2016, but he has regained some velocity on his fastball through intense winter workouts at the Driveline Baseball Research Lab and will look to revitalize his career in the Rangers' bullpen. He could even compete for saves.

Had to work during the Goon auction draft today and the AI drafted the worst possible team for me (my fault for not setting prices). For some reason, it didn't use $101 of the $260 budget. It waited until the 65th pick to draft someone (Justin Turner for $20). My team is such poo poo. Enjoy the free wins!
