Idk how it is now, but saving up caps used to be a slow and tedious process. Largely because of vendors cap caps.

For whatever reason I wasn’t leveling up anywhere near as well as I was in other Fallout games even after playing for 2 weeks. I am comically bad at that game. So everything will still be a challenge.

And I can’t stand Fallout 4 anymore because of all the missions. I can’t go five minutes without a Minuteman freaking out about some crisis.

Look around player vendors for an instigating weapon, it doubles the damage to monsters with full hp. They are kinda niche legendaries and usually pretty cheap. Two shot can sometimes be found cheap also. Throw down your camp and sell all your bullets you don't want for 1 cap per and people might buy them. Sell shotgun shells for 3 caps per. Collect all the meats, cook meats, and sell to vendors. Doing this should get you plenty to buy some cheap legendaries.

If you see a shop with a pressure plate to get to the shop, it is a kill room shop. They have flame thrower turrets set up to kill once your locked in the room with the vendor. You can fast travel before they go off because you never actually go into combat from getting hit by them.

If someone nukes the map check to see if its in the south east corner. Keep a power armor on you and go down there and join the boss fight. Experience the awful boss fights of fo76.

Every time I see mobile games that have an in-game currency and a rarer currency that's either gotten rarely or requires money to buy, I think:

"Why can't I use a lot of the easily farmable stuff to get a little of the rarer stuff?"

10,000 caps for 100 Atoms or something, to make grabbing caps actually mean something besides it just being taxi fare to get around the map

Because they don't make money off that transaction, and if you can freely farm up specific amounts that's going to thwart attempts to leave you with small excesses of their premium currency. It's why you can only buy multiples of 500 atoms (plus "bonuses") but there's things worth 300 or 400 or other amounts. They want you to have leftover amounts that can only easily be handled by buying more.

well I sorta poopsocked this game yesterday and got to level 10, I think I might be burnt out... I don't know.

it was reasonably fun.

I like that they don't have as much distracting bullshit cutscene/escort missions as in fallout 4. It's kinda nice having every mission be just whatever poo poo I can ignore and blaze through ignoring all dialogue as god intended.

Man if you hate plot why wouldn't you just play a game with legit good gunplay instead of just the best Bethesda can do, like if you're in it to run around cool vistas and shoot monsters Destiny 2 exists for basically that reason.

I know this is me essentially asking why F76 even exists and I guess I kind of am but "I really like the combat in this Fallout game but the dumb story keeps getting in the way" is like, the most surreal take to me regardless of which game you're talking about.

Ya it's weird I guess I'm fairly alone in this regard but I almost universally am bored by all video game stories. They are like superhero movies. The plot is always a story about nothing, with tons of holes but in video games they don't even have reasonably ok actors to carry it.

As for the gunplay, yeah it's not the best... But so far I have enjoyed creeping around head shotting zombies with my hunting rifle as is my typical tradition in fallout games. It's pretty interesting not having the time slowdown and not being able to really pause or reload.

That said I really should finish metro.

Also the multiplayer really goes a long way for me, even though it seems to be largely pointless... I get lonely easily and I really like the idea of other human beings being in the game.

I will say though that having a BR mode is cool, I like that it has some affect on the adventure mode. I was a pretty big PUBG tryhard when it first came out but the lack of any kind of persistent game that I could go relax in was what ultimately burnt me out.

I have a New Vegas question. I'm doing a specific build that has 6 Intelligence, 8 Endurance and 100 Survival. Now, I thought that as Survival went up, the positives and negatives of ingested items goes up. However it looks like only the positives are going up, and the negative effects are staying the same. So I'm getting +3 STR for drinking a beer but I'm only getting -1 INT rather than -3 INT. I'm basing this entirely around trying to get some unique dialogue from Dog in Dead Money that only prompts if you have intelligence of 3 or less. So my question is, is my game possibly bugged, or does my high Endurance stat counteract the negative effects of alcohol?

It definitely used to work that way, and I'm surprised you're getting just -1 INT.

If I recall, Moonshine is on a separate tracking mechanism than most of the other alcohol (I think beer/moonshine/everything else are the 3 basic alcohol groups), so you should still be able to drink until you're stupid.

Being tepid in the game itself (it's still not great but has come a long way and I like it despite also hating it), and not liking BR modes, I wasn't going to even gently caress with Nuclear Winter. But, since I had some spare time and the trial or whatever ends tomorrow (right? something like that?) I thought I'd try it at least once.

Surprisingly not that bad an experience. I may be in the minority, but I kinda dig it, and that it also gives you a little extra in adventure mode is nice, too.

I haven't killed anyone or even advanced beyond overseer lvl 2, and two of my three deaths have been to the storm and my own obliviousness, but it's actually not awful.

Aside from that, I am just anticipating them adding those drat NPCs, and praying that they somehow do it well. Back when they started talking about "new vaults opening up," them adding human NPCs and the ability to interact with them would be the obvious way to go, but whatever.

Lmao. Yeah I know. I know all so very well. In fact, in Fallout Shelter (yes, I play Shelter occasionally, and yes I like it), I got Garvey as a dweller via a lunchbox. I immediately renamed him and sent him to the barber for new hair. No minuteman outfit or laser musket either. Just, pass on Preston.

That said, if that's what we get, gently caress it. It's still more than what we have right now.

I tend to enjoy these later Fallouts, despite their achingly obvious flaws. Sometimes there's some (unintentional) charm to it. I also really loving despise them, though, which keeps it interesting.

On another note: I wish they'd let your PC in 76 (or any other title) become a ghoul from chem use or rad exposure. I want to play as a fuggin ghoul. Raul is one of my favorite Fallout NPCs.

I actually like this game overall more than Fallout 4, even though Far Harbor was actually pretty great. I agree that the map and terrain I'm 76 are better and more diverse and stuff. Also, sure, the skeleton of a plot that's there is better than the protagonist's main motivation in 4.

And yeah, sucks that it was rushed. Also sucks that even mediocrity seems to be a challenge for Bethesda's writing.

I like it because it is the first Fallout game where the hero arrives too late: the big catastrophe we are usually trying to prevent has already happened; all we can do is pick up the pieces and move on.

narrative speaking i thought all that stuff was actually good. "what if the vault dweller/chosen one/courier rolled in but was six months late?" and the 'bad' ending in a game happened. that's pretty interesting! and it was neat to slowly piece together the sequence of events that led to everything falling apart going from quest to quest

what really fell apart for me though was the lack of persistence in the game world after all that. for a theme of rebuilding the wasteland the small server sizes, auto-hopping server instances, etc really undermined that. i could come across someone who had done up a dope rear end base or mansion, but the second they logged off or if I got randomly DC'd itd be all gone instantly and given server sizes i'd probably not run into them again, or see that again. so once i finished the story i was just done cause i was just left with a world where everyone was still dead, all the towns are wrecks, monsters still everywhere, etc
