C.J. McCollum is a good basketball player. And I hope Lebron gets traded.

If you're not reading Ben Falk's articles, you probably should. They cost money but are totally worth it.

quote:

When the cap jumped in 2016, New Orleans had $26M in cap room to spend or save. They chose to use most of it to sign Solomon Hill ($12M per year) and E’Twaun Moore ($8M per year) to long-term deals. That meant that last summer after the Cousins trade, when Jrue Holiday became a free agent, the Pelicans had only around $14M in room. They couldn’t get a replacement for Holiday with that room (players of his caliber like Jeff Teague and George Hill were commanding $19M per year), so they were stuck without any real choice or bargaining leverage. They re-signed Holiday to a 5 year deal (including a player option on the end) for $26M per season.

Those moves, in isolation, all seem logical. New Orleans was taking the next step that made sense, following the open path in front of them. But now they’re staring at the fence at the end of that path.

This is the same theme I wrote about yesterday regarding the Blake Griffin trade. It’s the same fence that the Clippers bumped up against and that the Pistons now face. And this won’t be the last time we read about this. The cap jump created a fun little bank holiday for teams. But the jump seems to be over, the cap has flattened, and now the checks are coming due.

Congratulations Derrick Rose!

Remember when the former MVP has decided to take time away from the Cavaliers and weigh his basketball future, well reportedly he was just getting hitched. According to our source, Derrick reportedly eloped with his longtime girlfriend Alaina, who is pregnant. Our insider explained, “Derrick and Alaina wanted to start their family as a married couple.” We’re told that the wedding was small and private. At the time of his hiatus, former league MVP Rose claimed that he was taking personal time “to evaluate his future in the NBA ” and that his numerous injuries were “taking a toll on him mentally.” Nope, just needed to get married.-TO

He's always been rear end defensively though. Sam Mitchell basically said he was too dumb to figure defense out. Thankfully defense isn't as high a priority for a shooting guard as for a big.

Would the Pels still aim for Monroe even if they add Mirotic? I guess they don't play the same position, so maybe?

Local reporters say they are still going hard after Monroe.

Looks like the Pels were able to package Omer, Asik, Allen, and Nelson in addition to the first round pick in exchange for Mirotic and a second rounder. That frees up roster spots and salary for the pursuit of Monroe and (hopefully young) roster filler. Better return for the Pels than the proposal a couple days ago.

It is incredibly easy to punk the Bulls front office.

I saw a chart somewhere that showed the Bulls have made, like, three second-round picks since Chris Duhon in 2004, but I can't seem to track it down. If anyone could find that I would be forever grateful
