I'm in a weird place with this game now. Everytime I think about playing it I feel tired already and just play something else instead. But if I just force myself to turn it on I get sucked in. Anyone else ever have that issue with a game?

Fired up a brand new game since I never finished my first one, and now I have all the DLC. Fingers crossed A Woman's Lot is good. Also what are the mods with custom NPCs? Are people adding new quests or whatever?

Now that the patch is out my game won’t load. The actual game, not my savegame. It loads the bar all the way then crashes to the desktop before getting to the main menu. Then afterward steam fails to load it at all saying that the .exe cannot be found. I’ve already verified local cache integrity. Anyone else have this issue? I haven’t tried reinstalling yet because that’ll take a few hours. But it’s my next choice. Edit: I figured it out. Avast antivirus was quarantining the file, and since I keep silent mode on it wasn’t telling me anything. If anyone else has a similar issue, check your AV. Googling the issue shows that multiple AV programs cause this and it’s been an issue since the game released. chaosapiant fucked around with this message at 06:07 on May 29, 2019 |

That's a lotta bugsquashing, and might fix my main complaint with Theresa. Time for a new game. Maybe I can get the monastery murder quest to work this time. Dunno whether Hans not sparring with you in his underwear is a fix though

So if I buy the DLC, can I just play as her from my main story save or do I need to start a new game?

Vahakyla posted:So if I buy the DLC, can I just play as her from my main story save or do I need to start a new game? I started a new game and the option to start her DLC campaign pops up pretty early (shortly after you wake up in Rattay) so I would assume if you had a postgame save you could go back to her and start it anytime. I'm enjoying it a lot, you get a greater perspective of some of the characters from the starter town and informs a part of the larger storyline. Also Theresa is a total sweetheart, and you get to tell your dad to gently caress off for trying to force you into an arranged marriage to an old creep. I was able to cheese up enough money from stealing to buy a sword early on which helped with some of the encounters. Definitely play with and feed the dog, too. Also it makes Henry sort of saving Theresa in the beginning canon, but she ends up doing the majority of the work rescuing herself afterwards. And you get a pet dog for Henry, too, which can engage enemies and find loot. I haven't played the other DLCs but this might be my favorite of the bunch.

Game is fun second time around - particularly with a few tweaks to get rid of really annoying stuff like carry weight and getting dirty instantly. Feel sorry for the poor bastards on console, but, well... PC master race and all . The dog is kind of annoying. You need to feed him/pat him/give him commands constantly or his loyalty metre goes down - and it goes down loving fast. I'm sure someone will mod it to fix that at some point. The interactions with Sir Hans are interesting a second time around, too. I thought he was going to be nothing more than a petulant child and become a local enemy. Knowing that he's actually being somewhat genuine when he's being friendly when you go off hunting after being an immense prick changes my perceptions of his character, since I know when he's showing interest in Henry he's not just trying to trap Henry or be provocative. Yeah, Hans is a really well-written character. When I started the hunting quest I was thinking "I could put an arrow in his back so easily. No one would know." But his tone and word choice over the rest of the dialogue endeared me to him enough that at the end of the rescue, I realized that I could probably make that joke about his crushed balls and he'd be a bro about it.

I’m going to second the writing of Hans. I though he was a douche and was likely to be my immediate rival and troublemaker in the game. Instead he’s the mirror of Henry. He’s trapped in the opposite side of the societal wall and wants to peek over and envy the “lessers” who have the freedom to do what they want. He’s extremely well written and it speaks volumes about Warhorse that not only was he well written, but that he was localized well enough that I didn’t need to play with subtitles to “get” him. The Witcher will always be my favorite series, including the first game, but the Witcher 1 is full of great characters that don’t come across because of the bad English voice direction.

Wouldn't be bad to play him in the sequel. Add in some mechanic about how if you act in a way not expected of your class people react to you badly or something. Going to be interested to see what they do if Prague appears - obviously a city is much different to what we've seen so far. I really wouldn't mind an open world game where a large city is the world rather than a region (which I suppose is like GTA but you know not with cars and stuff). I guess Cyberpunk is doing that, but it'd be cool to show how cities worked in the late middle ages. And there'd be a reason to show how the locals interacted with migrants and traders from very different religious/ethnic backgrounds.

I mean, he's 'trapped', but he's also using his class privilege to go on his little risk-free adventures. I don't think there are many turnip farmers throwing wild parties at the brothel every night. The fact that he turns out to be a reasonably sympathetic character regardless is a testament to their writing chops

Last DLC is maybe a tiny bit overpriced, but what's there is pretty good. Has some good emotional moments. Poor Samuel, and oh my the poor dog. Theresa is a tough lady. They give a much better rounding-out of the relationship with her - I haven't seen all the interactions yet but what I have so far is satisfying. As with a lot of the writing in the original game, it manages to be touching while at the same time slightly melodramatic. We also get to see something of Fritz and Matthew being something other than awful human beings - this has saved them from an appointment with Executioner Hermann in the Gallows Brothers quest.
