I thought that heapsize command was just placebo, but it seems to have made a genuine difference to me (8GB RAM, 1070). I was using the 'escape to your horse' bit as a benchmark to nail my settings and although I'd got it running mostly well, there was always a section where you come up on the bunch of houses where it would dip to 45 FPS. With the heapsize command, it's a solid 60 FPS all the way.
