Just a means of enforcing imperialistic power dynamics by forcing participants to go into massive deficits to support public works projects with no longevity or future practical applications in mind, all for meaningless prestige and bribes. The Olympics are a sick example of capitalism at its most shallow and destructive. A locust swarm would have a more positive impact on a city than hosting the games. Instead of promoting togetherness, it encourages tribalism and mindless competitiveness.
