Whoops! Turns out Jake McAllister has always shown up late to school, even as a kid! Also too busy traveling the world to go to college, so he's looking for a nice career instead. He's not completely reckless though, and always has a backup plan such as insurance.

Jake didn't know his Uncle Jeremy particularly well, so he's a bit surprised by the large inheritance, but the circumstances of his uncle's death are a bit odd. I mean, slipping in a bathtub or in icy weather, sure, but slipping on a sidewalk in 80 degree California? Strange...

Jake was in California for his uncle's funeral, so he spent some time afterwards hiking around Yosemite to work on his latest paintings. Unfortunately, he got a bit lost and it took him all night to get back out. He took appropriate precautions (he packed extra clothes and food, and followed the river back to civilization), so he was none the worse for wear. But he still wasn't sure how he got lost in the first place. Maybe he was being paranoid, but thinking back on it, the only real possibility was that somebody switched those signs around back around Mile 6? He found an instant buyer for his painting of El Capitan, at least!
