I finally got around to watching this episode yesterday and getting caught up on the thread. Boy, this cast is a poo poo show. That Stephanie seemed to have her head screwed on the tightest so I guess I'll root for her (though we didn't really see the purple team at all except for Domenick and the bro down). Propaniac posted:Fake Donald Glover? This is very distracting to me. Big Taint posted:Donathan is so much like Kate McKinnon’s impression of Jeff Sessions. Also this. Very on the nose. Shemp the Stooge posted:he was near his VO2 max and could only hold his breath for a couple of seconds in that state. I have to comment on this, because this dude touts that he's a collegiate track athlete, which means he definitely wouldn't be near his VO2 max after about 20 seconds of swimming, climbing a ladder and going down a slide. If you've ever done a VO2 max test, you'd know it's going to take more than that for an elite (or even high-end regular) athlete to be topping out that quickly unless they have cardiac issues. Also, if you're a collegiate athlete you should know how to deal with adrenaline and not have it red line you immediately. Finally, a great way to make yourself sink is to let out air. You'll sink really quickly and it takes zero effort to swim down there. I really have no sympathy for people who go on Survivor and can't a) make a fire, b) swim, c) untie knots, or d) do slide puzzles (or even e) throw sandbags at targets). I mean c'mon people it's in EVERY SEASON. Once you get your 1 in 20 shot at a million bucks, put netflix or pornhub down for 15 minutes and practice this poo poo.

1) Fires: You absolutely have to figure this out because as we saw last season and presumably going forward, that can be the coin flip of you staying or going 38 days in. Mandatory. 2) Slide Puzzles: You have a phone. Shut up, you do, you know you do motherfucker. Download an app and learn it while you poo poo. 3) Swimming: Easier said than done for some people but what better reason do you need to learn this life-saving skill than a 1 in 20 shot at at $1,000,000? Not being able to swim makes you a liability and as we have seen through 35 seasons, people who are liabilities can become easy consensus boots when nobody wants to make a hashtag-laden game move. 4) Circus tricks: Like Bloop said, you can get materials for this for <$10. If it gets you an immunity win, a free steak, a hug from your wife, or even one day's worth of trust from a former adversary it's worth the $10 and a few minutes a day loving with it while you wait for your bagel to toast or whatever. These are really really small investments that can have a million dollar return.

SweetJahasus posted:I don't think these people really think through the answers they give to CBS. These bios make me feel like I hate everyone. From the old thread, but I feel vindicated that I read this dude correctly in my knee-jerk assessment. On the other hand, I read Michael completely wrong. Dude is great and he was impressive this episode, despite failing. No chance in hell he sticks around very long but if he can keep being clever, with a little luck he may sneak his way to the end and would be a shoo-in to win.

Dugong posted:Jenn was the only good thing about that season. Rodney, once he got past the initial couple of misogyny-filled episodes turned out pretty drat funny. To this day, I still constantly reference the "it's my birthday, bro" and the "zero point zero zero zero percent chance" he's going home ...he went home.

Hot take: I actually don't hate Chris. He's definitely a bro and I can see how he thinks his poo poo doesn't stink, but I think it may be a product of his youth and being put on a pedestal (collegiate athlete, male model, etc). He seems to be invested in his team's success. He had the right of it where Dom shouldn't have piped up and said that he disagreed with Chris' decision in episode 1. He had the right of it where Dom is coming after him, and always has been. I think we're just a bit conditioned to hate the guy who looks like Chris, and the editors aren't doing him any favors by giving him derpy music when he talks and such. I think my ultimately liking of him will reside in if he was rapping ironically or not. If he's just loving around then I'm 100% in on Chris, but if he thinks he's a rapper then no chance.

ApplesandOranges posted:I mean, it's kind of hard to say that Chris is just a byproduct of his age when Michael is right there. I think we can all agree Michael is an anomaly. I was a piece of poo poo when I was 18 and definitely wouldn't be able to socially navigate the way he is.

Weird question here, but does anyone else watch this on the CBS app and have audio mix issues? When I watch it on my laptop or on my PS4, it gives the same problems where the talking is very very quiet but the music is VERY VERY loud. I have to jack up the volume to hear what anyone says, but that leads to every music cue or sting to be piercingly loud, so I usually just end up having to closed caption the whole thing. Haven't been able to find any options to adjust, but it feels like an issue with their lovely streaming service since it's happening across multiple devices.

Super glad the service that I pay for, that still shows commercials, is a dogshit product that literal children could make something superior to.

SweetJahasus posted:It's been nearly a week but I finally brought myself to watch the rap. I'm a sadist so I watched it again. I've seen some uncomfortable poo poo in my years watching Survivor... Hatch's Allstar saga with Sue NaOnka verbally abusing a handicapped woman for having a handicap Rodney mansplaining about his "respect" for women to Lindsey Dan Foley The entire South Pacific season But Chris Noble really takes the cake for making me recoil with awkward discomfort while watching an enjoyable television show. That rap is truly an abomination, and may god have mercy on the souls of the people involved in its production.

Cheesy done well is hilarious and entertaining (The Lonely Island comes to mind), but cheesy done poorly and with diluted thoughts of grandeur is definitely not entertaining. And you can tell from every drop of exit press he's done that he takes his rapping very seriously and how dare anyone mock him.

SLICK GOKU BABY posted:Also, they apparently thought the tribes would come to a consensus on who to send to ghost island after doing a swap 6 days in. So then everyone after that goes to Ghost Island is decided by drawing rocks... Yeah this one is pretty unforgivable. There's a really simple solution: Decide who goes from the other tribe or YOUR tribe draws rocks, fuckers. You're welcome Survivor I'll assume the check's in the mail.

Fast Luck posted:Chrissy over Ben lol what How can anyone rationalize how anyone should have won over Ben, when he found infinity immunity idols while constantly being given hours of unsupervised time to look for them? Chrissy is the #1 person to blame for Ben's win, because she was the "mastermind" of the alliance that let him continuously search for idols and blindside them week after week. (Yes, I know you're going to say the fire making twist was a producer-influenced cheat code for Ben, but he shouldn't have even been in the game for that so this is what I'm faulting her for)

Lol at the guy who thinks production is putting idols under Ben's favorite making GBS threads rock or whatever. Also, he had to do because he was a threat that everyone knew would win if he got to the end. That's the definition of a good game. He was good enough that if he got there he was a defacto winner and just because everyone else couldn't compete with that he became a target who had to utilize tools present in the game to ensure his safety. If you think CBS is rigging the game then about 50% of the winners wouldn't have won (see the list that started this discussion for a start). Some people are luckier than others. See people work harder than others. Ben happened to be both.

I watched a couple.epusodes of the South Africa one and couldn't get into it. The host is super lovely and everything has this dimestore survivor vibe to it which is unappealing. The Aus and NZ versions are really good though.
