pretense is my co-pilot

i'm very favorably impressed thus far, my first war was a complete clusterfuck because a Raider fleet blew through all my core systems and then smack dab into the attacking enemy fleets and roasted em

by the time i did any Barbaric Despoiling all my planets had *just* finished filling up...urgh

does anyone know where the FDCB gets shown or is it totally behind the scenes?

noticed a few tooltips still in pretty rough shape, showing variables and such rather than localizations. But haven't seen any honest to goodness bugs yet. Fleet Maintenance is destroying me though. I have yet to build a single anchorage because i simply can't afford to maintain a fleet bigger than my native cap + tech bonus.

I'm loving the new ship computers, i have a fast corvette fleet and another fleet with artillery cruisers escorted by destroyers with PD/autocannons and it works quite well thus far

What are your guys' thoughts on early corvette war on your nearest neighbour with 2.0? How many corvettes? I just tried it with 13 and kind of feels like I need maybe 15 or so. Problem is, I think the AI will just match my fleet. Perhaps colonizing 3rd planet was a mistake and I should have traded it for more corvettes.

If you retrofit and match your poo poo to counter enemy setups, it has become quite feasible to do decently with 15-20. Haven't tested it yet, but tried going against 4 pirate marauders with 3 corvettes, which had only shields vs their kinetics and got diced without killing any. Then reloaded, outfitted them with nothing but armor and suddenly, I'm able of killing 2, making 2 retreat while having 1 of my corvettes retreat p safely.

The 50% positive and negative bonuses and penalties to lasers and kinetics when it comes to armor and shields really has made it a lot more important that you pay attention now I think.

Anyway, no wars for me yet early game, but I gotta say it's been a p cool new feeling, yoinking that extra critical system before the AI can, getting a couple yoinked in turn too and having to defensive pact up early, because you never know if that neighboring spirtualist border frictioned arse isn't gonna try something funny. So far so fun.

Also any recommended mods that still maintain ironman/achievements?

Hello Stellaris thread. I'm interested in this game, and it's on sale on Steam, but I'm sort of confused by the 'versions' that are available and on sale. There are several versions:

Stellaris - $15.99
Stellaris Nova Edition - $19.99
Stellaris Galaxy Edition - $27.99
Stellaris Digital Anniversary Edition (bundle) - $31.46 (Includes Stellaris, Plantoids, Leviathans, Utopia).

The OP says that Utopia is a must-have DLC and Leviathans is really good, so I'm leaning towards that last one, but the problem is that Steam doesn't actually say what the difference is between the first three options. What's in Nova & Galaxy that's not in the basic $15.99 edition. Does anyone know?

In addition I suppose I need to get the new Apocalypse DLC for $20 making this a $50 game, which isn't a showstopper, but it's not super cheap!

So just looking for advice on which of those first four options I guess, since I don't really know what's in option 2 & 3! Hopefully someone here does.

Thanks!

There's no rally points anymore because military ships can't exist except as fleet members (or traveling to a fleet), and the fleet is the rally point.

Nova Edition gets you a neat spider portrait and you can listen to the game's music outside the game.
Galaxy gets you that and a book and some wallpapers.
Other than the spider portrait there's no in-game difference, and you can upgrade to spider edition later.

I only had about 30-45 minutes to screw around, but I really like the new early game exploration and the use of spaceports to cap systems, and how exploration is handled.

I also like it a lot more then trying to figure out where, in pre 2.0, borders would go if you removed an outpost to try and recover influence.

Yes, they do. Ships now have to travel all the way across the system to the arrow leading to the next hyperlane in order to travel to that system, so in-system speed has been increased to compensate.

This means that traveling inside a system is faster, but traveling across the galaxy is slower.
