Didn't CK2 have a similar problem with late-game slowdowns that was caused by extinct blood lines still acting like they were not extinct (like, having children off-screen completely invisible/inaccessible to the players but still eating up cycles, and as you might expect the problem gets geometrically worse)?

Can you still do the thing where you process enemy species into food and get like +1000% pop growth or some poo poo?

So the New Year sale ends in like 28ish hours and I'm looking to "pull the trigger" (as the kids say these days) on these:
Stellaris
Leviathans Story Pack
Utopia
Apocalypse
Humanoids Species Pack
Distant Stars Story Pack
MegaCorp
Ancient Relics Story Pack

With these am I going to be missing any major mechanisms? Do the Plants/Rocks/AI packs actually add anything if you aren't planning on playing as a plant/rock/robutt?

E: Also, I'm confused about soundtrack DLC? I like the bullshit faux-classical orchestral music in Paradox games but it seems like the game content DLCs should already have music (since the soundtrack DLC says the soundtrack is "from" those DLCs)?

Like I said, land of contrasts.

E: So the Synthetic Dawn thing is labeled a "Story Pack" (versus the Humanoid/Plant/Rock "Species Packs"), does it have actual Men of Iron-type "revolt of the machines" or Butlerian Jihad-type "suffer not the silica animus to live" content at all?

E2: Oh hey, you can customize the adviser voices so it's not just one dude. That's worth a couple of bucks I guess?

It adds robots as a playable type, along with three different kinds with their own mechanic, and a mid game crisis that can start if a species has robot slaves.

I just ended up grabbing the "Ascension" bundle which had that and the planty bois. I think I have all the packs except for the rock one (and stuff like the "Galaxy Edition" upgrade and the soundtrack which I can't really see as being worth it?)

So until I got legal the other day I don't think I had played a more recent version than like 1.9 and that was a couple years ago. Assuming no mods and that I'm on whatever version Steam defaults to:

1. Which of the weapon paths is the current correct one? I think nuclear missiles used to be a good early-game option because of their range or something?
2. Is there still no way to actually decide to specialize and get only upgrades for your chosen weapon tree in the research options?

Does this tell me? Nooope! (It seems like it doesn't but that's based on Paradox Plaza forums results not actual information from the Paradox-owned wiki).

Most events are just listed in enormous text documents and what events screenshots exist are strangely done and don't give you a good idea of what pressing this or that button will result in.

It seems like it's full of "This page last valid for version 1.2, does it still work? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯" banners without any indication of how you might go about determining if it's still valid.

Fundamentally, it doesn't tell me if something is actually good or not or even give me the tools to build a rubric for developing such a conclusion.
