Hey so from what I've seen new patch is good, are there still any UI/balance issues that need to get patched? Also is the expansion worth getting full price?

Is it better to terraform planets or just build habitats?

Hey I'm planning on going to war with a devouring swarm whose planets have poo poo habitability for me. I can get either migration treaties with people that have suitable habitability, or possibly enlighten a vassal, plus I have robots (though not synths). What happens when I take over their planets and how can I make sure they're stocked with suitable species?

This might be hidden somewhere I missed it, but being able to turn off a station's shipyards for the purposes of reinforcement would be nice, if you've got some deep space shipyard for repairs and don't want reinforcements schlepping halfway across the galaxy

i don't think the game is an all time great yet but it's a hell of a lot better and it's now something i actually want to play and think most of the serious problems can be changed by loving with some numbers

footfall is at least readable, but wasn't lucifer's hammer which features post apocalyptic suburban dads fighting against an alliance of religious fundamentalists and drug dealers or was that a different pournelle book

Sure, the caveat helps. As I said I liked it, but thats a rather niche opinion it seems.

Really tho an Orion drive spaceship with battleship cannon turrets and space shuttles filled with boarding marines is :krad: who can't love that.

Wait weren't the drug dealers allied with the dads against the fundies?

hey, so i've played like one game since 2.0 and with ai mods are now actually interested in playing more. what's the priorities for minerals in the early game? i usually spread out as far as i can and build up stations and infrastructure on the homeworld as needed, then since there's usually at least one empire that needs to get taken out i build up like 20 corvettes and a couple armies, but this doesn't really feel enough to deter a major threat

yeah ive generally been prioritizing mineral mining/buildings, i was just wondering what secondary priorities for mineral spending should be

I do think fleet capacity should go down a little, it'd be cool to have like the max size of a fleet being a big ship or two and a few dozen escorts

playing as a devouring swarm, so i get bonuses to hull/armor regen. is going with limited shields a viable strategy with that? is there any way to spend excess power?

I'm playing on Admiral with Glavius and Advanced AI. I try starting a war around 25-30 years in, about when I start to get boxed in. But the AI tends to have a small but significant edge in fleet power by that point, and it's generally pretty difficult to pull off. Waiting just lets the AI snowball farther out. I think one issue is that I tend to be slow about colonizing new planets, I usually don't have one that early. Is there some other edge in tech or production I'm missing to exploit against opponents that early, is the difficulty too high, or are you just not supposed to start a war that early?

Btw I had a game as a devouring swarm where I conquered a planet during a war and it tanked my food output because no one was working but apparently were still eating and weren't being turned into food. Is that a bug or something?

pretty sure the next patch is just a story pack plus some incremental improvements and then they'll start talking about another expansion

The energy cost of maintaining a large fleet and infrastructure is what kinda slows me down wrt colonization, but yeah I should get on that faster. Losing tech leads also kinda bugs me, is there a particular trick to keeping pace other than slamming down research buildings wherever you don't have resources and grabbing all the tech bonuses you can?

I think the system is fine but their demands need to be a lot more flexible and they should have events connected to them. Outside of fixing a few dumb things I kind of think they're a secondary priority though, I'd like to see external diplomacy and trade come first

There was a cool Peter Watts story about a ship (on a billion year mission to build wormholes) encounters what's essentially a star sized brain and realize that not only is to unfathomably intelligent it also evolved in a situation where it had all the resources it needs so it doesn't have the impulse to violence and competiton we do.

lol its peter watts its malevolent after all and manipulates them into killing a rival intelligence

Decided again to see if the game is good yet. What's a current tl;dr for shipbuilding? I'm playing as a "bad guys" empire and wanna actually try some early aggression. And is espionage just a ledger with extra steps?
