one thing i like about bluejeans is they tried to idiot proof it - like if you start to talk and you're on mute it's like "it looks like you're trying to make noises with your mouth. wanna unmute?"

oh i tried co-author an office doc in skype 4 biz today it was amazing - it opened browser windows on everyone's machines and sent them lync invites in ims but if everyone did everything perfectly and the file met some arcane rules then you could use it kind of like google docs but worse

our ceo spent way too much money building zoom conference rooms and they all suck. I think there are 50-60 people who work in the building and we have 9 conference rooms with double big screen TVs, conference cameras, gigantic pro tier mic/speaker setups and these like hardwired ipad scheduler things because the office was too big and no one could figure out what to do with all the extra rooms
now him and like four other guys whose jobs i can't figure out besides "go out for lunch" and "wink at each other about drinking miller lites in the office" stand at other ends of the bullpen and holler at each other about how the conference rooms are bad and they need to buy new geegaws

anyway there hasn't been anyone there that's figured out they need to mute their computer's speakers when they're in a conference room because we have $20,000 worth of redundant equipment feeding back onto itself and today i had to give a presentation which was 90% me screaming at people to mute their god drat computers

i have no loving idea what any of these people (besides the ceo i guess) do but they all have offices so they're for sure making at least 2-3x my salary

maybe they did something in the past? our product launched a few months ago and is doing really well so everyone who wasn't a developer/support/internal testing doesn't actually do anything anymore except take long lunches and leave at 2:30. also we hired a bunch of project managers and like communications specialists i assume to schedule meetings in these conference rooms that each cost more than my car

we also hired 0 new developers and 0 new support staff which extremely rules as our user base balloons and we're careening headlong into v2 development on poo poo awful ancient code

s4b sort of works as long as you make sure to only log in from one device, ever

I got yelled at by my boss yesterday because he invited me to some group chat and I was away from my desk for the 10 seconds it took the popup notification to time out, so s4b decided to connect the wrong session making it look like I was in the meeting but not saying anything. :barf:

At least it's such hot garbage that it's easy to make even the non-technical boss type people hate it.

with judicious mutes and either a good car speakerphone or headset this is still possible and convincing. its only when they ask if you can see the screenshare that it gets dicey

still, a year is impressive and probably a better use of your time for an hour long morning meeting
