So after reading lots of positive feedback from goons in the steam thread and then the free weekend which allowed me to try it out for a few hours commitment free I finally bought DRG!

I'm enjoying it immensely, as a fan of L4D and Killing Floor in years past it definitely scratches that co-op horde mode itch.

After a few levels in each class (except scout which I haven't touched yet) I'm starting to feel like less of a burden to the team, even so far as to start learning to automatically place platforms under mineral deposits on high walls for scouts/teammates when I play Engineer (highest character so far at lvl 12)

One thing that I didn't expect when I started was that friendly fire is enabled, makes me slightly nervous when teammates are getting swarmed when I try and shoot bugs off them, I guess I'll keep the perk for damage reduction on forever since I don't want to be "that guy" who downs his team.

Any tips from the experienced players that I new player might have missed?

Team damage is miniscule outside of stuff like the driller's satchel charge, you won't be the reason somebody died unless you give absolutely zero thought to where you're shooting.

so what exactly happens to doretta's head at the end of escorts? either someone grabs it instantly or else it disappears and no one grabs it. does it fly off, or what?

Yeah, Low O2 sucks on missions where you don't have a mule, and I'm saying this as a scout who can just grapple towards air.

You should make a habit of calling resupplies next to pumpjacks(especially awkwardly placed ones) so you can get o2 out there.

Speaking of onsite refining I think Azure Weald has become my least favorite biome for this mission type. The cave generation just seems to create so many problems for building pipes, whether its spawning the pumpjacks a few vertical drops down from the oil rig or spawning the oil rig on a pillar where the first pipe section cant even reach the ground.

On the flip side, its definitely the best map for getting the pipe riding achievement and/or roleplaying Roller Coaster Tycoon.

I did a level 3 complicated and length Azure escort mission. That was by and away the worst experience I had in this game so far. Doretta stopped in a cave that I was by far the tallest and most open area I have seen in this game. It took us 20 minutes (I think, probably longer) to find enough oil to fill the canisters as they were all over the place and way up high.

Question about the Embedded Detonators on the Dual SMGs. Do any of weapon modifications (The weak point bonus specifically) effect the damage the explosion does? Or is it just it's own separate thing?

it's straightforward, it's also hell

azure weald looks nice, but the base darkness level is a touch too low and the generator seems to love weird rooms, yeah. I like the other new biome they added, rear end in a top hat plants who try to stab you aside. Actually those are fun so they get a pass.

Azureweald is my favorite biome right now. But yeah, could use some tweaking still.

And realizing that the other zone is just wood... makes it kinda unsettling. And the stabby plants are unnerving as well.

It's separate and not affected by weakpoint or damage ups from mods. The 'internal' damage the detonators do doesn't get boosted at all by hitting a weakpoint, and on the plus side also does not get lowered if they hit light/medium armor. However heavy armor, aka praetorian/roller/guard-front-leg armor, prevents the detonators from getting inside the target in the first place.

It's also not boosted by the target being frozen for some reason(just the 6 damage bullet impact is), but it is boosted by IFGs and does inexplicably work with blowthrough rounds.

my favorite gunner build by far is burning hell minigun with elephant rounds magnum. do a lotta sprint jumps to stay just ahead of bugs so they all get lit on fire while sweeping left and right, pop guards heads and spitters with the magnum. nice combination of CC and strong single target damage.

IronicDongz posted:

most of the enemies I pop with elephant rounds are too far away to light with burning hell. spitballers, menaces, spitters(who you are realistically not always gonna be headshotting) and faraway wardens.
the only enemies that stays alive near me when I'm using the minigun long enough for switching to the revolver to make sense are killed just as well by elephant rounds, so I would much rather have the flexibility of hitting enemies at range for good damage.

I did some test games with Elephant Rounds and Burning Hell because I've always struggled to make Volatile Bullets work for the exact same reasons mentioned above; I feel like they solve a problem that doesn't exist and leave a glaring weak spot in exchange.

Turns out I don't much like the feel of Elephant Rounds either, but hoooly crap does Burning Hell work better when you're not trying to run Hot Bullets to make that VB combo happen. 31312 BH minigun feels sooooo fine all by itself, and it pairs great with my trusty Composite Casings BRT7 stun cannon that I love so much. Idk why I never thought to put these two together until now, thanks for the inspiration. :blastu:

Tree Zone is neat but irritating to navigate and something about how the textures are done makes flares feel like they're 50% less effective at providing usable light. Maybe that's the point, but it's annoying.

I think it's maybe the brown/darker colors of the biome? Most of the other biomes are white, grey, or least lighter colored and shiny. Both the new ones are darker colored and more matte. And the azure weald specifically has dark shadows as a backdrop color instead of, say, the green of the dense biozone or the lighter blue of a few of the others. It's just pitch darkness.

i don't mind solo refining much but I just do it as driller. Escort as engineer. I don't prefer them for solo, no, but they're doable at least.

I also dropped the difficulty to speedrun the solos because I don't want to eat a loss for an achievement asking me to do it a hundred times, already a big request.

if the system did something like '100 solo mission points' and you got more points for clearing on higher hazard, that'd be a lot more reasonable.
