That was the 3rd part of the elite deep dive this week. Being the weakest link on the team, I went in with 2 deaths and came out with 23 deaths. I had no idea how to stop my engineer from instantly dying on revive when surrounded by grunts that spawn tons of parasites when you blow them up. Maybe I should take the invulnerability on revive node on my armor...

There's a helmet in the ground you hear beeping like a cargo crate battery. Activate the helmet and it puts a waypoint of sorts on your terrain scanner. Go there and loot the thingy.

Gotta agree with the earlier assessment of Return to Sender on the Breach Cutter, it's goddamn great. Liking it a ton better than Spinning Death and the vanilla overclocks. Running 11123 for mods and it's extremely effective at both taking out swarms and massive damage to large targets while giving me plenty of ammo. Loving the BC hitting stuff through walls too.

My step-son just trapped my wife at the new pickaxe terminal and refused to walk away so she could move. So much maniacal 12-year-old laughter.

How do you get a charged shot to explode with Thin Containment Field? I've never been able to mine stuff with it.

Breech Cutter became the best weapon in the game. Everything else is at least equal with its counterpart now (except maybe the M1000) so personal preference is the only criteria for picking which weapon to use.

Stage 2 of the elite deep dive a few weeks back was 10 aquarqs and a dreadnaught with mactera plague. That was pretty fun.

The wife and I were able to do the EDD by ourselves this week, our first attempt at doing so. Feels good. I remember when we couldn't handle the regular deep dive without a full team. I play engineer and she plays scout so that helps a lot too.

Wife and I are still duoing the EDD and we failed the 3rd stage on the trip back to the drop pod. I really want that cosmetic but doing the entirety of 3 stages again :negative:

"Mined" in terms of what gives xp means "hit with your pickaxe out of the wall". Blowing it out of the wall with C4 or Thin Containment Field or Fat Boy or a detonator, etc. is not "mining" and depositing it doesn't matter.

I use RTS and switched from 3-line to plasma trail awhile back and I've been loving the extra damage to oppressors and other big targets. It didn't take too long to get effective at aiming it.

Breech Cutter ignores armor, walls, and everything else except BET-C's force shield. Four shots kill an oppressor with RTS, 20% of the ammo, and it works from any side of the bug. Slower than a scout using half his cryo grenades and 2 shotgun blasts but still not bad at all.

Playing other shooters I can't stop trying to power attack anything that comes close. And I often let things come close because I feel my power attack cooldown is up so it's time to conserve some ammo.

The only thing I'm not liking about escorts is how long it takes to fill the drat fuel cells and the minimum time to clear it being around 30 minutes for 8k xp.

Once you've played for awhile and have all your upgrades and most optimal overclocks it's not really a problem playing with even the worst pubbies, though I admit I only do hazards 3 and 4 and I'm used to carrying my wife all the time. I'm over 700 hours played now and still love to jump into random games.

After all the cryocannon discussion a few pages back I've spent days trying different builds. I can vouch for a Snowball build being super effective now though it doesn't seem to freeze mactera as fast as a Perfectly Tuned Cooler freeze power build. I can't stand the "freeze in a 5m radius" mod over shatter with Snowball though. I'm too often on my own and you really notice a ton of bugs being left frozen instead of falling to pieces when no one's helping you. I just don't have time to pickaxe all those bugcicles since my secondary weapon is a mining tool.

Scratch all that though. Ice Storm AABAB is the way to go for me now. Sure it goes through ammo but you are the winter god of death with it. It still freezes stuff close to you plenty fast with the upside that bigger targets will be nearly dead in that short time and easily finished off. Kills mactera and grunts so fast while still keeping you and the team safe with lots of freezing. It may have made driller my favorite class over engineer.

I do. It was a reference to the discussion pages ago where someone was advocating not sleeping on the freeze in a 5m radius node - I think the same guy that advocated Snowball. Sorry for the confusion.

Went to do a 4D with the wife just now - double driller deep dives. The regular dive made it some 5D time cube poo poo as we encountered 7 detonators.

When you get really good with TCC you'll delete packs of bugs with the implosion as well as mining so reducing the cost of the charge shot by half works really well.

Using the same argument used against Heightened Senses, Field Medic is just a dead slot when no one dies or someone beats you to the downed teammate making it at best situationally useful. :rolleyes:

There's nothing wrong with situationally useful so just run whatever gets you out of the situations in which you find yourself the most. Personally I gave up FM for HS on every class a long time ago since I play with random pubs and am separated/soloing constantly. It saves ammo when you instant kill a grabber or gives plenty of warning to shoot the tentacle reaching for you from the invisible leech. Plus I can freeze all nearby bugs as a driller or scout or blow them all up fast as a non-hyperpropellant engineer or auto-cannon gunner so I wasn't finding a single insta-rez or faster rezzes all that useful unless I was completely out of ammo. Iron Will is always my other perk for wipe recovery or to fix my own mistakes. I haven't had a situation where I've gone "man, if I'd had a Steeeve tanking a lone grunt 20m away we would've completed that mission" but I've constantly been glad of HS and IW even if I don't use them every single mission.

This is correct unless it's changed in the million years since I had someone unpromoted. The single promotion unlocks the ability to gather overclocks from machine events, the weekly assignment, and the 2 deep dives, not the ability to equip overclocks. You do have to be playing a promoted dwarf to do either deep dive however.
