I love how much you can enjoy MoM without an understanding of 90s Korean politics, and thus don’t even realize there’s an extra layer of plot you’re missing.

When I saw Burning at the local indie theater here after the film they had a university professor from Korea go into detail in laying out political aspects we didn't had the context for. It was nice to enjoy the movie and then get that extra layer immediately afterwards.

Oh nice, I definitely would’ve enjoyed that. Burning is fantastic and it’s a loving crime it didn’t get even nominated for best foreign picture. Definitely one more people need to see.

I don't have a good memory so I am probably forgetting any detailed stuff, but gave us an overview of the workers right activists who protested through self immolation that the paintings in the film were referring to, the context and history of the building that was masturbated to and etc. I wish I could remember it better because he lay out things really well.
