I'd say the scariness comes from the fact that your doppelganger would know exactly how you'd react to a given situation, what you'd do, where you'd hide. I'm seeing shades of It Follows, where no matter where you go, it's only a matter of time until It shows up.
A doppelganger also knows everything that scares you, all your vulnerabilities, and can exploit that.

In Fabric was a great lesser Yorghos Lantimos movie, Slaxx looks stupid.

Best trailers are the obligatory Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and also The Handmaiden but it cribs heavily from the former.

Lambowulf is stupid and fun, it has post-apocalyptic knights with chainswords and a whole lot of nudity, I recommend it.
3dwulf would be amazing in live action - the cast is great, the whole movie is made with a lot of love, but the CGI is terrible. It's still very watchable unless you're a joyless Cinemasins-watching lump.

Its definitely a movie that doesn't make too much sense but who cares - the theatre experience of just everyone being absolutely quiet was great.
