The most popular sport in America is the one with all the players in tights. Superheroes are all the rage. Yoga pants, jeggings, and skinny jeans are ubiquitous. Tights have never been more popular!

Toronto has Telluride as competition now as well. Not sure TIFF is equipped to fend off challengers. It's been getting stuffier and more full of itself as time goes on.

M:I3 has Hoffman, who is obviously very good, but it doesn't have a lot that wows me. The team is boring and gets jettisoned before the ending and the big, supposedly impressive stunt shot of Hunt being blown into a car by a missile's explosion shockwave has never looked right. M:I2 is dumb but it's so much more fun.

M:I3 is actually my favorite. Best villain of the franchise, most emotionally resonant story with Michelle Monaghan's character and Ethan not being allowed to have a life, the best written dialogue of the franchise, putting tension and suspense over pure action, some great Cruise acting/running moments, my favorite setpiece with the Vatican break-in which feels like clockwork, and say what you want about the JJ mystery box but the whole rabbit's foot McGuffin worked like gangbusters for me. I mean, come on. The Anti-God? Dope.

The only thing I didn't like was the "love will start a heart" cliche at the end and giving Maggie Q nothing to do.

Thing is, I still like it as an action movie on its own. The stuff that knocks off points for me is relative to the other movies when it comes to ranking them.

I think Cavill's character is a CIA guy who's sent to track Hunt down when he goes rogue. He seems like a villain based on the trailers, but who knows, maybe he'll do a face turn.

This is like, rival territory, not an out an out villain. He's a good guy with what sounds like good intentions. It'd be cool to see him compete with Ethan in this or the next movies.

He also is going to get superpowers, probably in the sequel. In the comics he's Captain Marvel Jr.

It's like Ant-Man again, where if they're both going to be heroes (or if they're going to do the whole Marvel family) I'd rather skip directly to that movie.

Instead of Leia slowly Force-reeling herself back into the ship they should have moved the scene to later in the film and replaced the Holdo Manoeuvre with Leia doing a Kamikaze Hyperspeed Force Punch.

Edit: Also, just before she does it she has to yell out "Kamikaze Hyperspeed Force Punch!"

What measurement is used for success? Cultural impact? Critical reception? Subscriptions sold? Viewership? The last two we have no idea about.

Voltron is fresh in my mind because I just got done watching the seventh season. And I wonder how "successful" it is. Easily one of the best animated series' I've ever seen, especially considering its longevity, but outside of threads/subreddits specifically dedicated to discussion of it you'll never hear about the show.

I thought of Sandman and Hydroman as I tried to get a handle on the trailer. But surely you can't do a smoke and mirrors thing in a big epic Spidey film? Unless Mysterio got some cosmic poop to make his tricks real, I imagine he's a fakeout villain for the early part of the movie. Maybe an all out Sinister Six variant?

Mysterio isn't necessarily smoke and mirrors only. He often has some way of presenting some kind of actual physical danger behind his illusions or as part of them. It seems the trailer shows that Spider-Man can still get hit even if all or part of the monsters are somehow fake.

We don't have some innate DNA sense where we know who our blood relatives are but we do have some kind of mental barrier against developing romantic and sexual feelings for anyone we've grown up with very closely from a young age and that's a pretty good substitute that should protect us most of the time. From a biological standpoint having kids with your adopted sibling isn't bad but why did you develop feelings for them in the first place is the question. It's not like Clueless where Cher and Josh became family somewhere around the tweens.
