Probably not.

Francis Ford Coppola did it for television so he could get money for Apocalypse Now, and he's not really a fan of it. So I'm doubtful as long as he's alive, they're ever going to issue it.

I also think it hurts the movie because it fundamentally changes the story structure. It's ultimately Michael's story, and the scenes with Vito in 2 contrast the rise of the Corleone's with the moral collapse of Michael and the family falling apart.

Yea it was more of a curiosity than anything else, but it does lessen the power of Godfather II and there's not much of a benefit to putting those scenes at the beginning before the events of the first film. It's not something I really see myself ever wanting to watch again.

There's something uniquely terrible about that late 90s-early 2000s period in comedy films. Obviously the decades before that were a minefield of problematic and outright awful "jokes". But comedy movies in the early 2000s were actually pretty mean spirited. There are plenty of much older films that have aged better than a lot of the stuff from that period. This trend in comedy started a little before Bush but I still think that enthusiasm for cruelty that was the zeitgeist in the Bush era dripped into pop culture.
...so that's why I thought I hated comedy movies when I was growing up/paying attention to new movies

Unrelated, this is some bullshit: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/new-intel-chips-wont-play-blu-ray-disks-due-to-sgx-deprecation/

quote:

Intel has removed support for SGX (software guard extension) in 12th Generation Intel Core 11000 and 12000 processors, rendering modern PCs unable to playback Blu-ray disks in 4K resolution.

This technical problem arises from the fact that Blu-ray disks require Digital Rights Management (DRM), which needs the presence of SGX to work.
I thought they wanted to *reduce* piracy

That's actually how (shellac) records were originally packaged. It why a collection of songs is called an album.

Sorry I'm late
I watched the Lion King UHD and there was a weird bit with the sound during "I Just Can't Wait to Be King." Zazu's line for "This child is getting wildly out of wing" was obviously mixed way low but the rest of the music was the right volume. Is this a glitch on the disc? Did they decide to censor that line for some reason?

You think you can take me at Satan's Hollow? Go 'head on!
I mean, I can only speak to my experience watching the VHS nearly 30 years ago, but I always found that line to be borderline unintelligible. I knew that Zazu was saying something but I could never make it exactly what it was, so I think that line's always been mixed just low enough to where you can't really hear it.

I checked and it comes through very clear on the bluray, like this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bGjlvukgHU&t=140s

Watching on the disc is has a distinct "volume slider moving down" sound right as Zazu starts the line until you can just barely hear him saying anything. Its bizarre and must be something with the sound itself unless my headphones messed up in exactly the same place twice in the same way.

There's a few possibilities.

The first one is that it's a mixing decision because Zazu is flying towards the camera and so they may be moving him to the rear. Given that I assume you're watching an Atmos mix, they're probably trying to get a little funky with it and that could be source 1 for the volume decrease.

Source 2 could be the fact that you're listening on headphones. While Dolby Atmos should have a binaural setting for headphones, it could lead to you perceiving a volume decrease.

Source 3 could be your hardware. Folding down from surround into stereo could cause issues. So if you're not compatible with Atmos, your hardware could be taking a surround track and trying to represent it in stereo. And weird phase issues and other stuff could lead to a volunteer decrease.

The final source could be your brain. You secretly hate Zazu and so the more he speaks, the more you mentally turn down the volume on him. You don't notice this because Rowan Atkinson is most famous for playing Mr. Bean, a man who rarely speaks. Might I recommend watching Blackadder and seeing what happens?

To close things with the Lion King uhd, I tried it with my Series X and the Xbox headset. The line came through much clearer, though it still had a little weird surround effect as Zazu approached the screen. I guess it was something with how they did the audio mix that completely broke down with my PS5 setup

I’m not judging cause I get it. I was at my GF’s friends’ place tonight and I noticed they had motion smoothing on their TV, drat right I figured out how to turn it off in the tree of menus.

But it’s so funny the idea of spending like 30m-1hr trying to figure out what the gently caress w this one line and its audio output. “Dammit! I must hear Zazu more clearly!”

Manually adjusting the audio delay on the receiver is my black hole of productivity (the receiver can’t do UHD passthrough so video goes straight to the TV). I can tell when the audio & video aren’t lined up but it’s subtle enough that I keep second guessing if I adjusted it correctly and it drives me bonkers.

My friend just bought an 86” tv so I forced him to finally disable that poo poo if he’s going to have something so big. I will be checking to make sure it’s still disabled the next time or I’m keeping the remote.

Also noticed during a football game some text that looked suspiciously close to the edge of the screen and yup ‘just scan’ wasn’t enabled by default. I’m now realising these are all probably per input, and I’m considering getting in the car and driving the 2 hours to their place right now to fix the other inputs too.
