I already saw it, so I don't need to have it RIGHT loving NOW or anything. And I'm thinking that could just be a line I was given so I'd buy it now rather than later.

It's like that scene from the first Harry Potter film, and thousands of copies of Tammy and the T-Rex come pouring through your mail slot.

Barnes and Noble have 50% off sales for Croterion, Arrow and Cohen going on right now. Holiday shopping season has begun.

Cohen isn't that well-known of a label, but they have a lot of good stuff. Seems like B&N's inventory is pretty low, though, since many are listed as out of stock or marketplace-only. If you're region unlocked, the UK editions of The Old Dark House (MoC), Jamaica Inn (Arrow), Intolerance (MoC), The Thief of Bagdad (MoC), and the Merchant-Ivory films (BFI) appear to be a little better with more extras.

A heads up on Kino Lorber sales... per their insider on Blu-ray.com forums, they're having two sales this month: one for low stock titles that they'll be taking out of print and another one for noir. They're also planning a big sale in December. In addition to having the most silent films on Blu-ray, their Studio Classics line contains films licensed from Fox, MGM, Paramount (plus Republic), Universal, Disney (ABC Films/Selznick/Touchstone/Hollywood), and most recently StudioCanal. They're also one of the few studios routinely including commentaries on most releases.

Best Buy Black Friday deals. Some deals are available now, others you can save for later and buy online on Thanksgiving.

So I just found out Kodi added support for bluray java menus in 18. I already ripped my DVD collection to my NAS, and want to do it with blurays too. Thinking of how I rip CDs, there's an AccurateRip service that tells you if your disk matches what other people's disks are, so you can tell if there's any irregularities. Is there service that does with with bluray ripping as well? (And bonus if it can scan my DVD ISOs and tell me if there's a problem in them too.)

FilthyImp posted:I look at some of those and think "eh, I'll find it as a digital code for like $5". Yea I basically just jump at any chance to get a UHD for under $10. But the essential stuff from this year like Spiderverse, The Shining, and Wizard of Oz I already paid full price for. Black Friday for me is about picking up crap that I really don't need just for the hell of it.

There are lot of repeat UHDs from last year. But I’m down to clown w Oz and Spiderverse. Didn’t grab those yet.

I will say that The Wizard of Oz is a demo disc and easily the best classic remaster of the year. It looks like a pristine 35mm dye transfer print.

I try not to buy any big studio titles throughout the year, so I’m gonna buy all that Summer blockbuster stuff. Alita, Detective Pikachu, Godzilla. Get that and some games, put it on the Best Buy credit card, pay it off next year.

There are really only two groups of people where The Peanut Butter Solution remains a cloudy fever-dream in their subconscious: awkward, sad 40-year-olds and Canadians. Also: Ahahaha, did Severin create an entirely new sub-label so they didn't have to put The Peanut Butter Solution up against the bad torture porn they normally distribute?

I'd never even heard of or seen The Peanut Butter Solution. Making Contact was my Peanut Butter Solution, that loving ventriloquist dummy haunted my waking dreams and I could never remember where I saw it until the movie came out on blu ray. So yeah, I need to see that movie.

Making Contact is great. I had no idea Roland Emmerich directed it. That and the The Quest are my favorite forgotten 80s kids movies.

So those rumored 4K transfers of the Star Wars OT? Well, they're real, and just got stealth-dropped via the Disney+ launch. Content-wise, no substantial changes from the 2011 blu-rays besides this: https://twitter.com/ericfell/status/1194180485129199619 Also the color timing seems to be improved, with better sabers, no blue tint on Hoth, etc. The Fox logo and fanfare are back, and they're now using the new Lucasfilm logo as well. edit: The Prequels and TFA also have 4K HDR transfers available, but I gotta imagine it's upscaled for the former. Yeah, neat that they exist but I love my copy of the 4K77 print and that's what I'm gonna choose if I want to watch the film. I literally don't care about what the official releases even do now there's a great alternative.
