I really don't like those first two seasons. They're almost painful to watch, not just because the animation looks awful but because the jokes just aren't there and the episodes usually revolve around some kind of sentimental horseshit instead of comedy. I don't own them.

I used to have that opinion of the second season, but I finally got around to picking it up a few years ago, and while it hasn't hit it's stride like season 3, it's a lot better than I remembered and has several of the classics. Season 2 is probably better than you remember it being.

I definitely remember season 1 being pretty rough though, it's been forever since I've watched it though. It does make me a bit sad that I remember when watching reruns, season 1 was the worst you could do.

ComradeCosmobot posted:

Be careful what you wish for. Chances are they’d just dump the remasters they show on FXX. So if you like recropping to 16:9, and color correcting some of the older seasons (and, if I recall correctly, some occasionally dubious image processing), be my guest.

Yeah, I'll pass on that one

Vinegar Syndrome for August is 3 blus:

Shot (1973)

quote:

Semi-urban detective duo Ross and Wilson have been charged with taking down local drug kingpin, Blasi. After busting a low-level pusher, they convince his girlfriend, Sheila, to start working for them as an undercover operative in exchange for avoiding prison. But as Ross finds himself becoming romantically interested in his new, perpetually spaced out informant, Blasi continues to strengthen his crime empire, setting his sights on even loftier, and deadlier, ambitions.

Wonder Women (1973)

quote:

While traveling to Australia, American detective Mike Harber (Ross Hagen) finds himself stranded in The Philippines and obliged to assist in solving the mysterious disappearance of a famous Jai alai athlete. After hearing from a witness that the man might have been kidnapped by a group of beautiful, hearse driving women, Mike quickly finds himself a new target of the Wonder Women, a group of martial arts fighting assassins who work for the mysterious Dr. Tsu (Nancy Kwan); an evil genius scientist who’s been collecting able-bodied men for use in her bizarre body part transplant experiments!

Dear Dead Delilah (1972)

quote:

Back in 1943, Luddy viciously murdered her mother with an axe. 30 years later and freshly released from the state mental hospital, deemed ‘cured’ of her violent impulses, Luddy’s luck seems to be turning around, thanks to a chance encounter with the family of Delilah (Agnes Moorehead), the miserly matriarch of a large plantation estate. She quickly finds herself hired as Delilah’s housekeeper, but no sooner than her arrival at the cavernous and secluded mansion, grisly murders begin to take place. And worse, each time a new corpse is discovered, Luddy finds she is unable to recall her whereabouts at the time of the bloodshed. Could her old self be coming out, or is someone else trying to set her up for more sinister motives?

What's great is that his videos are amazingly well-produced, even for something he's doing just as a hobby. It's funny how there's this "professional" content that's full of time wasting garbage, while Mat is able to make a 30 minute video on a dead format in his garage that's riveting.

And the Muppet stingers are the best.

That's because he shelled out enough for a quality setup. The biggest gripe I have about youtube and podcasts is production quality, just because anyone can put out something for free doesn't mean they should. Honestly I can't stand a podcast with consistently poor audio quality, which is the reason I've never gotten into it.

I already had some of the DVDs for titles like The Cut-Throats, which is a movie I really enjoyed, so I didn't even think twice upgrading. The porn discs... depends on if you dig vintage adult movies. I'm old enough to remember watching Ribald Tales of Canterbury on VHS on a 6-hour SLP tape, so the jump in quality was massive. Kind of surprised that the first two sets are still available. I figured that they would've sold out within a couple of weeks.

It's really only been the last ~6 months that the limited edition slip covers have started selling out at their standard 1,500 within a month, I get the feeling that Liquid Sky managed to put VS on a lot of people's maps.

Teenage Fansub posted:

HASPG is great, but the other four on that set don't really have plot sections compelling enough to outweigh the boring sex.
The second 'erotica' set is better about that with it's Dracula and Kung-Fu porno flicks. Baby Rosemary is also a good grimy exploitation movie in it's own right. I'd already seen that on their streaming service. Haven't got to the other two yet.

The exploitation/horror sets are flat-out good.

HASPG was a blind buy in my first order from VS solely based on the title and I have no regerts.

Not to mention people's pet favorite films just disappearing and reappearing every 6 months-5 years. Unless wireless internet providers improve exponentially, outpacing broadband and fiber, and studios either becoming a lot more proactive making their films available at all times, or digital media purchase becomes a larger market, I just feel like it's a retraction due to watching trends.

You have too much faith in people, we're the weirdos. Most people don't give a poo poo about picture, you could give them the picture quality of a highly used VHS dubbed at SLP and they'd be fine with it.

I tend to watch a lot of Vinegar Syndrome's extras. As I've branched out into all different eras and genres of film, my time watching commentaries has gone way down because yea it always seems like my time would be better spent just watching another film. Back in college it was much easier to justify spending a few hours watching a commentary track because I was still basically watching the same handful of movies over and over.

Back in 2003 when I had a DVD player, and started buying movies, a movie was an investment. If I was out shopping and saw a movie I wanted, I would have to stop and think about if I could really justify dropping $20+. If that fucker had 3 commentaries on it, I would watch one a week because I had nothing new to watch.

These days if I'm out shopping and I see a movie I like and want to watch I can just buy it. Hell, a month ago I was at Walmart and saw the Terminator on Blu for $6, and it was the most expensive item I bought that day.
