My first DVD was I Spit on Your Grave. First Blu-Ray was Prometheus.

One of the last VHS tapes I remember buying was City of the Living Dead for 24.99. Years later I rebought it on DVD for like 5 bucks.

How's the blu for Luther the Geek? I love the Troma DVD of it, not sure if it's worth double dipping on that title tho. I can't believe VS is releasing Dead Dudes in the House too. I bought that movie years ago in another Troma boxset.

Hell yes. I just bought a bunch of VHS storage this afternoon (only the most tasteful faux-wood grain drawers) because I've had ~150 tapes sitting around my apartment with nowhere to go for the past year. Mine's mostly TV recordings too, lots of weirdo sci-fi and cult horror movies. The guy I got them from was selling them as blanks, but he had really great taste. Even a handful of tapes with horror hosts, too. And there's a bunch of weird old porn in there. But it really is a massive treasure trove of amazing sounding stuff. I haven't even heard of 3/4 of it, but seeing how the guy called it "psychotronic" content in the auction, it looks like he's a real-deal cult cinema dude from back in the day, as he clearly got the word from the Psychotronic Video.

It's really interesting watching these with no control over what's coming up next or the ability to change the channel. It's like watching antenna TV in my friend's basement when I was a kid. One channel and that's it. Incredibly nostalgic. And those commercials, man, it's like time travel.

Exactly what I was looking for, thanks. It's really interesting to see the difference in taste, there. I feel like I'm torn on every other scene. The original is how it looks in my mind (and on my earlier Blu) but there is something very attractive about some of the scenes from the re-grade.

The visual anomalies, 3D weirdness, and hair removal are all bizarre and unnecessary/sloppy, though.

You gotta find a way to digitize these and throw them up on Youtube.

Or dub them using two vcrs and send me copies.

Target used to sell some really good generic bookshelves for 20-40 bucks that are nice and tall, those are what I've been using, but I don't know if they still sell them or not.

Troma used the alt angle function to re-insert cut scenes for Terror Firmer. When it would come to the part in the movie where the scene was supposed to be, a prompt button popped up and if you hit enter while it was on screen, it would insert the cut scene into the part of the movie you were on.

Alright so a minicinema then is basically just like a regular cinema except maybe instead of even being as big as a one-screener it could be a hole-in-the-wall building with folding chairs and a roll-up projection screen.

Would still be a cool thing to open, there are a few empty lots/buildings in my little town that'd make good indie movie houses. The problem would be an audience, like we've got a college town nearby but otherwise we're not very cultured around here. I'd probably get hounded with people asking why we don't show Marvel movies, "I thought this was a real movie theater!" etc.

There's a couple of collectives in Los Angeles that does this, most notably the Echo Park Film Center.

If you start a microcinema you should really just call it Vidiots. But if you're doing a shadier microcinema, you don't really have to worry much about audience—it's cooler if you're the only one in the theater, anyway. Just show some weirdo movies and advertise it at the library and a nice group of buffs will find it.

I'm sure there are tons of illegal microcinemas all over the country, though. I know NYC has a few, but most are so niche and underground that even I don't know about them. I know somewhere in the city does regular kung-fu movies (though Spectacle has a surprise Sunday matinee kung-fu, too) but I'm not legit enough to know where.

There was a Vidiots in the westside of Los Angeles, but it was a video rental store that would do small screenings in the back room. They closed their doors in 2017 but are planning to re-open as a film preservation society.

Severin takes a long time to ship, but I'm pretty sure it's just one dude fulfilling the orders, and they get pummeled with orders during sales, so I'm usually willing to wait. They're much better than Scream Factory. I ordered Night of the Creeps in February, it's now almost a month late from its original release date. And I know that, like nearly every Scream Factory title, there will be something hosed up with the disc (bad audio, wrong aspect ratio for the first part of the movie, like Carpenter's Village of the Damned), or the Tom Atkins figure (main reason I bought it, the old disc was fine) will come broken. Sorry to rant, I know this is an Arby's drive-thru, I'm just tired of waiting for Scream Factory to get their poo poo together.

drat, that poo poo sounds super hosed up and coupled with the lovely business practices I heard they pull, it kinda makes me not want to buy anything from Scream/Shout ever again.
