Severin is the label for the cool stuff I wanted to see after reading about it in Shock Cinema, stuff that you'd have to buy a mail-order catalogue to get and then wait three weeks for a lovely DVR transfer. Vinegar Syndrome is the label for porn, stuff you'd find in "1001 Grindhouse Classics!" boxed sets and the occasional oddball gem like Christmas Evil, Liquid Sky and Tammy and the T-Rex. Both have their place, I'm so glad we have weird boutique labels putting out professional, HD transfers of stuff no other label would touch.

I'd argue that VS has been getting a lot better about what they put out these days and you're seeing a lot more obscure things that people would actually want to watch now.

It is kind of funny that between Scream Factory, Severin, Arrow, and Vinegar Syndrome, each company has their own niche in the horror/cult community.

Still, even odds that I ended up giving them money for nothing.

I don't know how licensing agreements and all that work, but I wish these companies would stop with the "ONLY 500 WILL EVER BE MADE" gimmick.

Just open pre-orders for a few hours and say, "after the pre-order window is closed, there will be no more made."

Vinegar Syndrome's logo looks like clip art and I hope they change it some day.

No idea who that's supposed to be on the Severin logo. That's kind of my issue with Severin over all though. They're releasing stickers during this sale and they've been posting them on their Facebook page while saying like, "We HAD to do it..." And everyone in the comments is like, "Oh ho hoooo! A delicious treat for fans of THAT movie..." Like, just loving say what it's from and stop trying to be an elitist.

They've resorted to just having people E-mail them with what they want to order. The whole thing now has a "Kramer running Moviefone" vibe to it.

I never got into Freddie, Jason, and Michael Meyers as a kid because our next door neighbors were massive hicks who also loved Puppet Master, so I assumed all that stuff was complete garbage.

About five years ago I decided to give all of it a chance. Turns out the first three Halloweens are great and the Friday the 13th series is pretty drat good over all.

Nightmare on Elm Street is a little lame if I'm being honest though. I think it's one of those series that's awesome when you're a kid.

I think most people like the aesthetic of Grindhouse rather than the actual movies whether they know it or not, because most of the movies are boring garbage that people had to be tricked into watching.

As far as renaming movies go, the worst example I can remember is the movie Screamers. Roger Corman bought some boring rear end Italian fishman movie called, like, Island of the fishmen, released it as that, and when it failed to make any money, he renamed it Screamers, made a cool poster for it, slapped 15 minutes of actual entertaining footage of Cameron Mitchell and awesome gore and rereleased it. The result is a movie that starts out great and then becomes almost unwatchable.

I was super confused by that because it wasn't like talking dolls weren't a thing back then, so why on Earth did it have to be THAT?

I don't know why, but that movie collection video depresses me.

If I was "never have to worry about anything ever again" rich I'd definitely make a big rear end media room, so I can't be too harsh, but for as big as it is, it just seems so boring.

Why do you need 12 copies of Braveheart? Or four copies of Napoleon Dynamite? It's just so much junk, and if you removed all the doubles, I feel like you'd fill maybe one side of one of the aisles.

A fake video store leading into a relaxing "viewing room" would be the way to go.

I guess it didn't help that the guy leads off with some more interesting stuff and then goes into the most mediocre crap imaginable.

"Here's my Arrow section. I don't know, I don't have a ton... Now here's the crown jewel of my collection: 58 copies of The Matrix INCLUDING this German version which comes with a model of the Blue Pill. Only 15 of these exist in the world and it came with a black Steelbook that says "Der Matrix" in neon green Comic Sans."

Part of me thinks this guy goes down there every night and then just watches The Office on netflix or something.

But what can he really do about it, he needs the space to shelf the 11 Star Wars movies that each have six different versions.

This is a weird question in general, but not for this thread:

My Arrow sale shipment from Grindhouse came in and three of the cases are blue. Some quick research is saying Arrow had some trouble sourcing their regular clear cases, which is what it is, but does anyone know a site where I can find clear replacements?

I think I'm definitely gonna grab all 3 Forgotten Gialli boxes and round out the roster of blaxploitation stuff. There's also some titles like Putney Swope and Fade to Black that I've been eyeing off on since their release, but if there's anything y'all wanna make a case for me blind-buying, hit me.

I thought Mausoleum was pretty underwhelming, and from what I've heard Xtro 3 isn't good.

I'd highly recommend looking into There's Nothing Out There, Psycho Cop Returns, and Red Mob.

There's Nothing Out There is a super low budget monster movie that's some how so annoying it's charming, Psycho Cop Returns feels like it should be a movie someone is watching on The Simpsons and is just a ridiculously cheesey slasher, and Red Mob is a solid action movie that's pretty interesting because it's a Russian movie made right around the time that our relationship was being normalized, and it seems like they had access to a bunch of surplus military vehicles because near the end of the movie they're just blowing everything up.

From Right Stuf, the anime website. I wondered why they had four 70s British horror movies available on the anime website, but since they were released by Geneon it makes more sense. But then does raise the question of why Geneon did budget releases of 70s British horror movies.

From what I can tell, Nozomi bought Geneon, which I think used to be Pioneer, in order to get the rights to a bunch of anime they had. So now they either have a bunch of overstock from when Geneon was dying, or they're printing cheap rear end copies of random rear end movies just because.

Because someone's nephew runs the graphic design department and has to justify their employment.

It's capitalism, 90% of any big company is people not actually doing what they were hired to do and instead tricking the higher ups into thinking they desperately need them.
