Boywhiz88 posted:Elysium 4K announced which means all Blomkamp movies are on UHD, which is great, but now they may release a 4K collection of his movies and I already bought District 9 in a Steelbook. drat. My need for cool art is now conflicting w my love of consolidation. I can’t wait for John Wick 4 so I can get all 4 in a nice Steelbook and gain a little space. I'm avoiding picking up any of the Daniel Craig Bonds in 4K until they release the full set after the next movie, which at this rate will probably be 2025.

beepsandboops posted:Heat is getting a UHD release in May: https://twitter.com/GeekGab_/status/1356656033217695745 When Cineplex in Canada listed movies available to watch in private screenings because of the pandemic I was heartbroken to see that Heat was not on the list (not that theatres are open right now anyways) so this is a nice consolation prize Now do the rest of Mann's catalog. Does anyone have this John Carpenter set? Appears to be no extras since there's no BDs included but it's an Australian release so that's fine. I'm not even sure if the X700 is region free.

Yeah UHD is regionless, but if I were to order a UHD/BD combo from another region then the BD would still be region locked.

I can pick up this Carpenter set for $69 (nice) on Amazon Canada with prime shipping so I think I'll go for it. I missed out on a euro 4k release of the Neon Demon shame about the X700 needing to be modded to be region free though. Cacator fucked around with this message at 00:08 on Feb 6, 2021 |

Anybody have the Scott Pilgrim UHD that came out this week? The old blu us pretty feature packed as is but I'd imagine this movie would make excellent use of an Atmos track and I'm wondering if the visuals are also worth an upgrade (appears to be an upscale).

The last time I went to a Room screening it was people being drunk as hell yelling over each other for the entire runtime (and the occasional spoon throwing). It was so obnoxious that I never want to do that again.

A lot of bad movies can be very entertaining in different ways or on their own merits. So stuff doesn't even have that. Yeah this is why I only make fun of movies when with my friends Mike, Jay and Rich Evans.

I missed the Dune steelbook by minutes today, had it in my cart but lollygagged and didn't check out fast enough. I forgot today was the release date and just assumed they were restocked. It's too bad because I usually don't care about steelbooks either but the artwork for Dune is classy. I'm assuming these things are one and done and I shouldn't expect them to be back in stock?

ultraviolence123 posted:I would put it in your saved cart and repeatedly check to see if it's back in stock. Best Buy restocks their online store at Midnight Central Time, so just check around then if you're up. I've scored some steelbooks that way. Except for Roger Rabbit, that looks like it's never coming back in stock, and I couldn't wait any longer, so I just grabbed the regular 4K edition. I still have the steelbook in my saved items, and I know that if it ever comes back in stock I'll be buying it as well. Welp Best Buy (Canada) just delisted the item page for the steelbook entirely so that dream has ended I'll try again when I double dip for the Dune Parts 1+2 ultimate collector's edition steelbook in 2024 or 2025. Edit: they've delisted the regular UHD too which is odd, but I know the physical stores have them in stock. Cacator fucked around with this message at 19:56 on Jan 12, 2022 |

Basebf555 posted:With LOTR the real debate is about whether or not the UHDs are worth an upgrade if you already own the blu rays. I can see both sides of that discussion, but if you're buying the trilogy for the first time I do think the UHDs are clearly the best choice overall, even if they do come with some minor downsides. The blu rays are far from perfect themselves, so it's a matter of weighing pros and cons. Bah, is this true? I already ordered it this week because it was discounted and reviews seemed to rave about the upgrade.

The only real plus is HDR, but to my mind, what good is high dynamic range of a bad picture? That's lovely. None of the review sites I read mentioned DNR as far as I remember.
