There are a million reasons to ruin things.
It's funny how people don't really talk about them as much, but it was the episodes where it's just Homer hanging out with Alec Baldwin/Kim Basinger and Mel Gibson and getting into crazy showbiz antics that really turned me off at the time they originally aired, much more so than Saddlesore Galactica or any of the other usual ones people talk about.

Going to be honest, my reaction to Mission Hill was starting up the first episode before listening to the first podcast, watching for five minutes and not laughing once, and very confusedly stopping the episode and not going back.

I had the same reaction as you months ago, but I recently returned to it and found that the pilot kind of undersells the rest of the series quality-wise. I would suggest giving it another chance and pushing through the first one or two.
