'The Resistance' immediately read to me as 'Legally distinct from the Freedom Fighters'. Probably just as well.

Have you seen kids shows these days? They're pretty candid about people dying. DuckTales even.

I'm not very familiar with Sonic Forces and that's honestly just as well. But interestingly, it seems like the Forces status quo is basically a take on SatAM with more room for self-inserts; Eggman's forces have pretty much conquered the world and the remaining free critter folks are fighting guerrilla warfare against the robot forces, though it seems after this Eggman is AWOL and the decapitated robot army is more or less wandering around aimlessly and probably ripe for whatever new villain comes along to take control. Basically could be almost post-finale SatAM.

Amy seems to have borrowed some from her Boom incarnation; being more mature and responsible than Sonic himself cares to be.

Porker flat out looks like Porky Pig there.

Mighta been an issue that they're from so early in the franchise; likely they didn't have style guides and reference sheets for the characters, and they probably didn't bother trying to go back to the original source (Mickey Mouse and Felix the Cat) and risk lawsuits and/or Sega getting pissy.

They probably got better as they went along, but kept up some of the odder character designs out of legacy.

New issue out. Rough and the Tumble look just formidable enough to be a threat while just dumb enough to be funny. Well, pretty much to be expected.

Looks like they'll be introducing games characters on a relative drip-feed so far. Funny that Knuckles ends up dragged into leadership duties when he's possibly even less suited to it than Sonic for a number of reasons, and knows it.

Clearly a relative of Marsupialami.

Ian Flynn must be really hanging in there after basically having to rebuild from rubble 3 or 3 times.

Maybe he pulled a Superman III on himself and the evil, hyper-competent portion of Eggman is in the chair. Sonic and Friends would then have to decide if it's better to keep Mr. Tinker as his own being but have a more powerful enemy, or to but them back together in order to deal with a more bumbling and amiable Eggman.

Was thinking something like that, that Mr Tinker has Eggman's more bumbling, friendly and creative side along with his better traits, and also not a hell of a lot of memory because there's not a hell of a lot of good to draw from with him. He's basically acting out his usual MO minus the world domination part. Combining the two might make a more Sonic Boom-esque Eggman compared to the original comic Eggman basically boiling down to being a brutally ruthless manchild.

Though as a counterpoint, it's not the first time a comic Eggman/Robotnik has coexisted with a duplicate of himself, robotic or otherwise, whether an imposter or some kind of backup. And the Eggman in the command chair has been noted to be less efficient at running the Badnik armies than they're used to, which could mean either an imposter or maybe that a lot of Eggman's skill is in the Mr Tinker side of him and he's using toys he doesn't fully remember how to control.

The comic mandates are pretty in line with everything Sega's done with the Sonic franchise- ie, massive overreactions to previous mistakes due to their own carelessness that fail to address the core of the issue.

Would be interesting to see if they tie in the movie stuff with the comic, since it's basically the first time we've ever had a real origin story for Sonic (besides the ol Dr Kintobor silliness) and actually explains a lot.

There's a weirdly Venture Bros esque take on the relationship there, Sonic realising on some level that Eggman really is playing around, and is aware that he lets his whims and ego get in the way of what's optimal, and doesn't mind.

Plus, even if he DOES succeed, there's no guarantee the power vacuum won't be filled by something worse. Like say, Starline, who's tried to be Eggman But Efficient and racked up an impressive resume of war crimes in a short amount of time- and if anything but be even worse when it comes to being callous, petty and cruel. Better the devil you know and all that.

I'd doubt Eggman can keep it up for long, but you don't arch a speedster for long while not having something in reserve. You can be fat and fast, see linebackers.

He could also be cheating Baron Harkonnen style.

that's cuz he did. Ian didn't invent it.

Even more wonderfully amazing.

Latest issue has an interesting setup... Kit being overly 'helpful' for Surge's attempted hero turn almost immediately getting to the point of engineering disasters for her to 'save' actually kinda tracks. The whole dark reflection thing aside, it makes a scary amount of sense that him feeling (because he was programmed to) he doesn't exist for any reason other than to serve Surge, and having no real motivations, ideas or moral compass outside of that, gets to a dangerous place quickly.

I do wonder if it's going to get to the point where for Surge to be a hero, she has to have a villain to fight, and if no one else will step up to the plate...

And also on the last bit, there's no way the most paranoid and heavily armed character in the comic, whose main weapon and motif is a sniper rifle, is sitting out in the open like that in an area with sheltered sightlines without very obviously baiting someone out. Rainbow Canyon is also awesome, and may be based on real-life places that look like that thanks to geological shenanigans.

I mean I get that but also I don't get how the logic of "when villains know (for example) Wonder Woman is dead they'll start acting up" leads to "we should put Amy Rose in Wonder Woman cosplay (and I guess the lasso made the trip too?)"

But it's just a silly story where Sonic & Co. get to dress up as superheroes so it really doesn't deserve any overthinking.

It's got precedent, see Reign of the Supermen and Knightfall.

Chaotix have been played for cheap comic relief, or at least something vaguely shaped like comic relief, for a bit too long that it can be easy to forget they can actually accomplish things. Mainly through being stubborn enough that they'll keep grinding away at a case until something gives.

The Columbo riff is also fitting given his whole deal is looking like a bumbling schlub until he goes 'Just one more thing...'

Didn't they just add a completely different jewel thief elsewhere, in addition to Rogue the Bat already existing? It seems weird they've overloaded that specific archetype.

Rouge steals jewels, looks like this one steals ancient artifacts, totally different specialties.
