I believe so, he appears in some pages of the vomit that Penders is making with the characters he managed to 'get back' from Archie. I would hope the only characters he got the rights to are the ones he made.

I am now that you posted about it. Didn't know that it was coming out that soon.

Yeah, this thread is pretty dead most of the time. It's normally three or so posts every time an issue comes out and then no discussion. Personally I think it would be better served as a general Sonic comics thread.

In short: Basically ran Archie's Sonic series for years by virtue of being there the longest. He had no interest in the actual Sonic characters and mostly wanted to tell his magnum opus with his echidna characters. His stuff is mostly considered awful these days and Sega didn't give a poo poo what was going on so long as the comic made money. Until they were getting ready to launch the 360 Sonic game and wanted to see how the brand was being represented, the issue they saw had Sonic on the cover crying in the fetal position clutching a wedding invitation. Depending on who you believe Penders was either fired or quit after that (probably the former) and after that the comic started getting better with a new creative staff in charge. Jump forward a few years and Penders found out that the awful Sonic RPG that Bioware put out on the DS before they were brought by EA borrowed some elements from his precious echidnas and raised a stink about not being consulted or paid, saying that he owned his creations. Archie couldn't prove that he signed a contract saying that anything he created for the comic was owned by Sega & Archie because they're incompetent. They must have settled out of court or something because not long after he started making original stuff with those characters and the Archie comic rebooted to remove any character from the Penders era, even the ones created by other writers. Years later another writer started talking like they were going to sue or something to try to get the rights to some characters they created for the comics during the Penders regime, Sega then promptly pulled the Sonic license from Archie and IDW picked it up. Penders occasionally posts some bullshit from time to time that get people talking about him (most recently he said he wanted to do a story about Princess Sally losing her virginity in a children's comic about a speedy blue hedgehog). I probably got some of the specifics wrong and there is more bullshit surrounding the guy that I probably don't know.

Nope. I think it was the first casualty of Sega pulling the license. Hard to tell though since they came out like five months apart.

Also, assuming this is genuine, Tangle and Whisper might be making the jump to an official Sonic game! https://twitter.com/TailsChannel/status/1276804127155093504?s=20 I mean, it's a lovely free to play mobile game, but it's something!

I get the feeling that Sega has a much better relationship with IDW than they did with Archie, which isn't surprising as they basically left Archie unsupervised for god knows how long.

Yeah, I've been enjoying the comic but the whole metal virus arc really could have done with being shorter. It was a little funny how almost every story in the annual had a pretty dark ending.

These days they're mostly known for the Lego games. They also made Sonic R. Game Hut a YouTube channel by the director of Traveller's Tales is a pretty good channel to follow, they actually pulled off some impressive stuff tech-wise despite their games not being very good.

I didn't know Bad Guys was out, thanks for posting about it! I enjoyed it, did sigh a bit when I saw that Zavok was part of it, but then I never played Lost World so I have no connection to the character. I dunno', the Deadly Six just don't really feel like Sonic characters to me, they just feel out of place.

I'm really glad that the comic is finally moving on to something more lowkey, at least for now. I was really finding the metal virus storyline exhausting, especially for something that came so early in the comic's life.

Yeah, really enjoyed this series despite my initial misgivings. Thought it stuck the landing pretty well.

Yeah, the 30th special was great. Sonic gets a driving lesson was a bit of dud, but the other two were gold. I was ecstatic to see the Hooligans again, seemly unchanged from reboot Archie. I'd like to see them in the main series, but for some reason I don't think we will. Veotax fucked around with this message at 23:32 on Jun 26, 2021 |

It was them. Seems Sega is way more ready to accept the IDW characters than any of the Archie characters, pre or post reboot.

I miss having a second running book like we had with Sonic Universe under Archie, but having the occasional mini series is a decent replacement. This one sounds neat. If Sonic is actually a main character in it, I wonder if he'll be in the main book at the same time. He's been almost entirely absent from the other mini series, right?

TwoPair posted:I think it's probably because she yelled at Silver and Whisper (and kicked Silver off the team) for calling Someone posted the page from the latest issue where she kicks Sonic, Tails and Amy out of the race for causing an accident (which was caused by sabotage, but she doesn't know that), and there were people talking about how awful she is for doing so. From one page without full context, even though even with just that page it's obvious she's a race official and is kicking the gang out for apparently endangering others. Sonic fans are insane. There's some now trying to push the narrative that Frontiers is a worse game than Sonic 06, or even worse saying that 06 is actually good and is an underrated gem.

So apparently the DC crossover is out tomorrow? You can't seem to buy it digitally in the UK for some reason. I buy the main comic on Amazon Kindle/Conixology/Whatever, but when I look up the DC crossover the only thing that comes up is the collected version that releases in September

Digamma-F-Wau posted:same in america Yeah, I ended up waiting for it to go on a scan site. If they're not going to sell it to me, gently caress em! I'll pick it up if they decide to put it on Kindle at some point, otherwise I'll get the trade later this year. Really enjoyed the first part though!

Looks like the comic is finally going to be moving passed Frontiers (and probably adapting it, I guess) https://x.com/IDWPublishing/status/1947695703175663769
