another game at nationwide arena. everybody keeps asking me if they can fuck the cannon. buddy, they don't even let me fuck it

Old-school playoff matchups by my count (assuming division winners are 1 and 2 in each conference):
1) Tampa (Atlantic Champion) vs. 8) New Jersey
2) Washington (Metro Champion) vs. 7) Columbus
3) Boston vs. 6) Philadelphia
4) Toronto vs. 5) Pittsburgh

1) Nashville (President's Trophy) vs. 8) Colorado
2) Vegas (Pacific Champion) vs. 7) Los Angeles
3) Winnipeg vs. 6) San Jose
4) Minnesota vs. 5) Anaheim

I...actually kind of like some of the matchups the way they are now.

SHUT UP AND PLAY HOCKEY
Predators/Avalanche; 5 games
Best team in the league vs worst team in the playoffs.

Jets/Wild; 5 games
Jets are on a roll and Wild are not.

Knights/Kings; 6 games
Similar records last 40ish games, LA with better record last 20ish games, LA has playoff experience, LA better suited for playoffs, LA won most recent meetings
(boy will I look stupid when Vegas sweeps)

Ducks/Sharks; 7 games
Toss up. Picked Sharks purely because I think LA matches up better with them

Boy I can’t wait to hear about 2013 over and over again like this is some rematch when the Leafs will dress at max 6 dudes that were even there.

I think Babcock scratching Johnsson for Leo is a big mistake and I hope Andy remembers it’s an even month and forgets his dogshit March. Also I hope one of Zaitsev or Polak gets some minor injury so I don’t have to watch them get ground to dust.

I really hope the refs make a loving effort to call any penalties this year. I prefer having the odd bad call to a billion non ones.

The Leafs have six players who played in that series.* Five who played in game 1, since Gardiner didn't even draw into the lineup until Polak got hurt. Leafs were running a Fraser-Kostka pairing there.

Which team winning the Cup do you think would be the most godawful narrative?

Vegas
Pittsburgh
Toronto
Winnipeg

I think either Vegas for the "this is the biggest upset in the history of sports" hyperbole or Toronto because the fans and hockey media will make Cubs and Red Sox fans seem humble and reserved.

That would rule, yes. The Toronto hype actually penetrates the American consciousness, where I feel like I could cheer for Winnipeg without being touched by the ambient smugness.

The chatter around the Caps right now seems to be all about the goaltenders, which I guess is a refreshing change from the constant talk of curses? I guess we still have plenty of time for it to come around to that.

Sullivan has them too disciplined now to let this become a gong show in that fashion.

I could see a lot of high scoring games though. With the goaltending for both sides being bad and both sides having good offenses that part at least seems inveitable.
