Kay Kessler posted:If tehsnakerer's interpretation of the game was the dev's intention, then a much better ending would have been to, instead of fighting some "proto-Alex" guy, have the party members realize that they can stop their world (i.e. the game) from ending by preventing you the player from finishing the game. Undertale did something similar with its genocide route. Have it end on a battle of the player vs. the party in an unwinnable and unloseable fight where the only option for you is to turn off the game. No ending, no credits, their world surivives, they get the happy ending instead of you. Based solely on the plot summary in the video, YIIK sounds frustrating because there are tons of different directions you could take the story and gameplay in and have something actually fun and interesting, but it just refuses to do that. For example, Alex narrating the game could be used to either make jokes about how self centered he is or to have some fun with the narrative. What if he was selective with the truth to make himself look better? What if literally anything other than using it as an excuse to copy/paste your novelization of the game into the game itself? The whole thing just sounds like a huge waste of time to play.
