Pandaria kicked rear end because it pushed the writing team out of their comfort zone of killing off characters from Warcraft 2/3, and as a result they came up with some genuinely interesting and fleshed out locations/races/events. Same thing happened with the Arakkoa in WoD and the Nightborne in Legion, the moment they can just go hog wild with a concept largely unconnected from the ongoing plot spaghetti they nail it. See all the garbage that's coming out from the previews of the BfA novels to see when they don't.

Gotta be Old Monk. Interesting concept, did not work well and was open to abuse by wankers with Scraping Spears. Done much better in DS2 with the Mirror Knight, with the invasions able to be countered by an aggressive enough player. The Hydras in DS1's Darkroot Basin/Ash Lake were pretty rear end as well. Edit: I remember a lot of people swearing blind that the Smelter Demon from DS2 was the worst boss in the series. Never understood that, he was that game's Ornstein/Smough: the fight that lets you know the game's gonna stop pulling it's punches and punishes you for not paying attention. Old Iron King right after was way more irritating a fight.

There definitely needs to be people taking the video game industry/culture to task for it's failings (seriously, with how hard Microsoft was hammering the GAMERS AS AN IDENTITY button Peter Coffin must have been foaming at the mouth), Macintosh isn't one of those people. So maybe we can move on instead of reiterating how much of an idiot he is.

God I'm glad that people are finally starting to stop slobbering all over Kojima's knob. He's always been a giant creeper, but you so much as mention it and you get a legion of lovely nerds lining up to vomit walls of text to you the DEEP SYMBOLISM of having a dying trauma victim try and hump you to death, or having the audio of a pair of teenagers being raped and abused be an important plot element, or hell having you stare at Meryl's rear end to figure out where she's going in the first MGS. It's telling just how significantly less creepy and obtuse the games get when he's not involved. Rising remains the best Metal Gear by a country mile. Death to autuer syndrome, the games are better when people actually tried to reign in his bullshit

It's absolutely the best Metal Gear game, and it does it by shedding the smug self-seriousness of the main series and embracing the ridiculous elements people actually like about it.

It's okay. The human characters are pretty flat and it suffers from being set in the most generic part of the Warcraft storyline. There's also some characterisation issues from how certain characters were adapted (Doomhammer). It pretty though.

The new season has at least been consistent. For every good Moffat helmed episode we got scores of steaming crap ones, which you usually had to suffer through anyway to figure out what convoluted meta-plot Moff had shoved in that season. New season has been consistently alright, with last Sunday's episode being a shining pinnacle so far. New Doctor is great, no more of the self-wanky "Doctor as the most important figure in the universe" poo poo, she's an awkward nerd who wants to travel around and help people. The dynamic between her and the companions is really warm and human, companions haven't been all that fleshed out yet but they're working on it.

God drat, the state of British pop music was loving dire in the late 90's/early 2000's. You had that small blip of hope with Britpop in the early nineties, then the next 2 half decades there was a million poo poo pop groups trying to ride on the coat-tails of S Club, Spice Girls and Steps, along with the glut of terrible, terrible novelty/comedy songs that the British public inexplicably loves. The narrow choices in half-breed fantasy creatures is absolutely purely down to laziness/lack of imagination. Lets not forget either than most fantasy writers love to make such unions skeevy as well thanks to intentional creepiness or just plain not thinking it through. Warcraft only gave Orc/Ogre daddy Rexxar a unique chonky look this expansion, but you compare him to fellow half-Orc Garona and all she gets is some dumb tattoos despite being half space-goat. And lets not forget the million half-Elves rolling around 'coz apparently humans are irresistible gently caress-machines.

Been legitimately worried about the direction that WoW's been going for a while, since Pandaria it seems like Blizzard have been scrambling around trying to reinvent the WoW formula and learning all the wrong lessons. Legion was a fluke, but as mentioned above, they learned all the wrong lessons from it and BFA has slogged along for nearly half a year now. There's less to do, but it takes far more time to do it. Meanwhile, the story writing continues to take a nosedive into awkward and inane right into a pit of Actually Problematic. The faction full of formally oppressed peoples? Yeah, they're committing warcrimes and perpetuating an imperialistic agenda while the devs pretty much lie to us how things aren't going the way they blatantly are. At this point, if things don't end with The Horde having yet another civil war then they're gonna have pull one hell of an explanation right out of their rear end.

WoW's big, overarching narratives have always been dumb comic-book event melodrama with nebulous stakes. The gold has been in the smaller scale stuff. Questlines, zones, dungeons. Any time they have to make up stuff whole cloth rather than lean on pre-established fluff they land on good poo poo.

Keep getting occasional hankerings to play GW2, but it always seemed like there was really nothing to do outside of the story content, instances were a case of attrition or devolving into a Benny Hill chase as aggro jumps wildly around, PvP was blob on blob combat and lol platforming in an MMO. Also ANet is a garbage company. A shame, Palawa Joko is a great character and his recent story focus has apparently been great, and I miss my sharkrats.

Like, that clip of him whining about the themes of TLJ made it sound like he thinks that a film's plot forms out of the aether and is then mangled by the writers and director to fit the theme, or some poo poo. At the very least Nomura doesn't come off as an overt creep, which gives him and KHs a leg up over Kojima and MGS. Putting on my basic bitch Feminist hat, I can't help but feel that partly the blame might rest in Kingdom Hearts' popularity with girl gamers.
