The Book of Secrets unlocks when you finish the game - this is a not-as-necessary easter egg to get it early. So yeah, I suppose it's a reward for all of the point-and-click veterans who know to try everything on everything just in case. After the duck-clamp-clothesline, there are clearly no limits.
