How much do you tip the person who rings up your total at the grocery store? I usually tip around 10-15% of my total bill, even if it's just something small like a trip for milk and eggs. I do use a system though that includes things such as if it's a holiday or they're exceptionally speedy at bagging my groceries - and how the place the groceries in the bag (ie, eggs on bottom = reduction in tip, bread in own bag = big money.) When I went on a cruise ship to Nassau they acted as if I were crazy for tipping them, so I figured it may just be an American thing.

Jose Mengelez posted:in the civilized world they've been replaced by a machine that screams "unexpected item in bagging area!" at you until you smash it to pieces with an extremely stale baguette. There will always be an attendant though. It's mandatory. If I MUST do self-checkout, though I 90% of the time do not because it takes away cashier jobs, I make sure to tip the attendant.

To be honest it also depends on what chain of grocery store I'm shopping at. Publix = higher class, bigger tip, Walmart would be lesser. Gas station the lowest, unless it's a mom and pop.
