Placing a mine is an attack and mines do not have Targetless trait.
Drop Bears in throwing mode do have it, so you can create minefield with non-camo mines with Bolts and Locusts.

Doesn't the fact that it's Deployable, and hence has to be placed in base contact with the deploying model override the lack of a target?

ED: Actually think it's the fact that although it's an Attack, Attacks in general don't require a Target - I believe that's more a requirement of the BS Attack skill specifically. Drop bears in throwing mode require it in order to be thrown without a specific target, but if you're deploying a deployable weapon, you don't need one.

No Jurnal this week (unless the skin showing on the Yuan-Yuan counts), but a nice, relaxing bit of painting.

Fat Yuan Yuan was stupidly fun to paint - was going to get coca-cola decals to cut up and plaster over the red bits to give the impression of salvaged metal for his armour, but was going to be a bit fiddly.

After three Dakini I think I've pinned down my OSS colour scheme. There'll also be a bit of dark-mid blue and some yellow-green to blue-green for cloth as appropriate.

Apologies for terrible pic; really low-energy month for a multitude of reasons, and couldn't work up much enthusiasm. Happy with the colour scheme though, and won't be too much of an arse to take forwards.

Did have more, with addition photo taken, but managed to forget to put it in the thread. No worries though - was a bit of a scrappy month.

Came out a bit shiny due to over-enthusiastic application of varnish.

And for the missed oath; two more Dakini.

Still getting the hang of the colour scheme to be fair. Only 3 more Dakini to go!

Basing-wise I've used the micro arts card bases for my Aleph, with some scattered Vallejo lava texture paste to roughen it a bit. My older Haqqislam use horticultural grit / "sharp sand" to get a rocky desert effect, and I've tried to go for similar to the studio alien-landscape scheme for my Tohaa - used plastic putty sculpted in 'waves', then used more of the texture paste that gets painted a fluorescent turquoise for some kind of alien lichen/moss.

Nothing too extravagent; I worry about the strength of the join with the base for metal models.

I think even without that there's a place in the world for that KHD. I like that infiltration/stealth/WIP 14/BTS 6 combo... rolls a lot of useful stuff onto a shotgun platform. Something like that will be valuable now that brain blast and sucker punch are gone.

I think I'd prefer if bio/total immunity was either the ARM or BTS or 'ignore the effects of the ammo type' rather than both at the same time - wasn't that always an interim attempt to fix the mess of the immunity/ammo type interactions?

It also appears that Symbiont Armor no longer has a fire vulnerability in the army builder, which isn't a really huge buff but it is kind of nice when facing folks with lots of flamethrowers.

As pointed out; Fire isn't a thing anymore. So Symbiont armor is just Transmutation(W). They do lose the +3 PHY when you try to heal them though, so swings and roundabouts.

"Cover from a fire hydrant" imo is ok (speeds up, prevents arguments), but high ground cover rules are just a big joke
You always have cover in positions that were idiotic before and can easily wreck the table from above

Also I am baffled by the decision to grant 2 models into reserve for first player - why was it introduced? Only thing that hurts player 1 (aside from just completely screwed assymetrical tables) is biotechvore and missions with zone scoring at the end of each round - and I dont think they will be the majority of ITS document.

I kind of agree with you with the high ground rules; although that feels like an omission rather than a ruling thusfar. 2 models in reserve is only if your LT has Strategos, though, and wasn't that always the case for one of the levels?

Had my first game (and first TTS game) last week and it felt a bit quicker and a lot smoother than N3 (not that I had that much experience actually playing any previous edition). I wonder if some of the fragility comes from the fact that many units have become a touch more powerful or more interesting with the N4 changes? But our game was only called at the bottom of turn 2 as we were playing Supplies (as per the N4 book, not ITS) and my opponent wasn't going to be able to grab a box in his third turn as I'd taken out or pinned down all his specialists.

No sniggering at the back there!

About to play my first game of N4 and first on TTS, simple Annihilation, against one of the best players I know, and one of the best in the UK.

I assume from this you're also in the HATE newbie league? (Am LazyAngel on the HATE discord as well, if you're on it, although my screen name is different). I've got my second game of N4 tomorrow, first game of the league but fortunately neither of us really knows what we're doing.

Well my first game, both of N4 and TTS was against one of the veteran players (using a trysoft Druze list) who has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the rules, which probably made me a bit lazy :-P But spent a couple of days list-building Spiral Corps, including some shitlisting (Nobody here but us Chaksas, Totally Normal Human Mercenary Company) which helps bed in the changes.

Arg, list-building is hard. Have a 200pt Annihilation game with my Spiral against Vanilla Combined. And I've got no idea which way my opponent's list is going to lean :-P Do I go for conventional, or give into temptation and try out either the Longarm Haris, or Kiel-saan And Friends (being 2 Kaauri Paramedics for a cheap triad)?

Lol, Andy is a top-rate player. Good luck to him, but I think it's difficult to play down in a fair way. You tend to alternate between doing the smart moves to build up advantage, then throwing it away to keep the game even, which gives the newer player some pretty lessons!

Fortunately he wasn’t needed as an unknown ranger this round 😊. Managed a 10-0 in my game, mostly due to a sniper duel that defied and decent probability and tilted my opponent into wasting too many orders.

What's the verdict on N4?

Early days yet, but so far there's been far less of the CB ambiguity to deal with. Feels a lot easier to keep track of skill/equipment, and most statlines have become more effective or cheaper, or just more interesting. Only had two games so far, but feels quite a bit quicker, despite our unfamiliarity with the new rules.

Had my first live game in two years down at HATE yesterday. Annihilation, my Spiral Corps, vs a Szally/Gecko nomad list. Ended in a 5-5 draw purely because I miss-handled a Rasail Lt, and he managed to kill my Doctors.

All this whilst my most effective source of AP was a Tri-cored Draal with an AP marksman rifle, which made things a bit hairy. Managed to drop his Szally on turn 2 (1 STR lost to a below rocket, then 4(!) to a Draal burst and horrific armour roles.

His Gecko did a bit more damage, but ended up in a gun dual with my Kumotail that took him around 3 orders to drop, then a bad encounter with a Chaksa’s flamethrower.

Then my Igao went out to play (as we discovered you can mirrorball without LoF) and left him with 45 points left on the table to my 140.
