![]() Resistance is Futile is the 13th album by the Manic Street Preachers, an alt-rock/punk/pop band from Wales, UK. Formed in 1986, the band has seen huge success with hit singles such as Motorcycle Emptiness (1992), A Design for Life (1996) and If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next (1998). Originally a four-piece, shortly after the release of their third, critically acclaimed but commercially unsuccessful album The Holy Bible, the rhythm guitarist/lyricist Richey Edwards vanished without a trace in February 1995, on the eve of their biggest US tour up to that point. The tour was cancelled and to this day no one knows what happened to him. The Manics decided to continue and went on to become one of the most celebrated UK bands of the 1990's. I had a huge, huge effortpost written about the history of the band but lost it. Thanks Windows 10. ![]() Resistance is Futile on Spotify

Don't know them as well as I should but 'Kevin Carter' is great. Also sometimes i get one song from Holy Bible stuck in my head, the white america one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNtD6mrkSZ0 The Holy Bible is a drat good album. For anyone interested, "Everything (A Book About Manic Street Preachers)" is a terrific rock biography that covers the history of the band from its inception up to 1999. Completely worth a read.

Yeah, it definitely sets the tone for the rest of the album. Right out of the gate with a “oval office” four words in no less. Richey was on form. 4st7lb is goddamn haunting, too. And hey, here's Yes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gd3C9aAupQI As for the new album, it definitely took longer to grow on me than most Manics albums have, and they always need to grow on me, but overall it's really solid and I might even like it more than Futurology which I thought was fantastic. Not much evolution on RiF but evidently even a sideways movement can yield results. Stare-Out fucked around with this message at 01:56 on Apr 22, 2018 |

Just found this, a lovely-rear end quality video of Sean Moore drumming a sound check of La Tristesse Durera. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kj1b7RZ-L6k

I wish I could get over The Holy Bible. Every time I hear other Manics albums, I just wish it was that one.

Journal For Plague Lovers comes pretty close though. They for once did the right thing and released an album highlight track as a single. Usually they've left those to rot on the album but loving A, Hold Me Like A Heaven is the last single off Resistance is Futile: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JU5bn2LiOfA E: Also Nicky sang a cover of Sex Pistols' "No Feelings" during the last couple of gigs of their tour. If anything, it's pretty hilarious. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXPjhImbFro Stare-Out fucked around with this message at 17:53 on May 18, 2018 |

They often tease the much-maligned Sleepflower live but James recently played it acoustically in its entirety. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0YZYIpmBpM

Lots of hints that People Give In will be the next, and most likely the last, single off Resistance is Futile. Another Kieran Evans video. While waiting for that, James Dean Bradfield did a guest vocal on fellow Welsh band Public Service Broadcasting's "Turn No More" some months ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cd6Vffdou1c

And here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycu1PTHYKik Also as an introduction to the band, aside from "Everything: A Book About The Manic Street Preachers" (which you should read anyway, it's one of the best rock biographies out there!) there is a documentary called "No Manifesto: A Film About Manic Street Preachers" that goes over the highlights and is definitely worth checking out for anyone interested. It's a surface scratch but nonetheless fascinating: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTBN5UfIRTI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewWcMPBtFTk For an in-depth look, specifically about the period of Richey's disappearance, check out "Escape From History," by Kieran Evans, it's a really great documentary. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmiMnma1EiE Stare-Out fucked around with this message at 19:25 on Jul 27, 2018 |
