When I was a very awkward nerd in my early 20s, I completely missed that a hot girl was hitting on me.

I was getting the train home from work, and there was an attractive woman maybe a few years older than me in the next seat. She asked where I was going, and when it turned out I'd be getting off the train at the same stop as her, she asked for directions to a place in the town that she was visiting since she wasn't familiar with that part of the town. She then took great pains to say where she'd be going for a drink later in the evening alone, and to let me know that she was staying in a hotel alone, and reiterated what time she would be going for a drink, and where. I nodded politely but inside was going "wtf I don't care about your evening plans, can't wait to go home and paint some space marine miniatures"

It wasn't until the next day I basically had a light bulb moment and realised that she was telling me this because it was basically an offer of a no-strings date. (or an invitation to a horrifying murder because I was a lonely nerd who wouldn't be missed, idk)

but I did see the name on her check started with A, which did put things into perspective.

I'm probably missing a reference here but why does that put things into perspective?

I don't really even see the appeal of VR porn because sex is all about physical contact with the other person. Seems to me that it would be impossible to really feel immersed in something like that because your brain would be constantly telling you to reach out and touch the other person and there's just nothing there.

I think if you're into vr porn, you maybe don't have physical contact very often anyway, so it's largely for lonely/creepy/single/incel (delete as appropriate) guys

This is made even more goony by the fact that the loser is posting it on a gaming website forum.

One of the things that absolutely kills me about audiophiles is this:

So here is a quote from a review for a power cable on that website:

It's very common for audiophiles to talk about high-quality setups as producing music that is almost spiritual. This guy claims to be paralyzed from how good the CD sounds. But like, a hypothetically perfect audiophile setup is just going to be perfectly reproducing live music. Like, I'm not going to lie, I would much rather go see a symphony performed live than listen to it on my nicest audio setup, but at the same time you don't see people convulsing in their seats because the music sounds so high quality.

It is just so baffling to me that these people spend so much money and think it's this unparalleled experience, but they're not actually aiming for something we don't already experience regularly—just regular natural sounds.

Do audiophiles refuse to go see bands play live if it isn't in perfectly designed acoustic spaces? Or do they actually avoid amplified live music because it's not good enough quality compared to their home system?

Do you think these guys can afford tickets to live shows when they're saving up for a new set of artisanal speaker cables?

Good point, well made.

Edit: although if they do go to shows, I bet they're those guys that hang out near the FOH engineer and try to talk to him about the mix and offer advice in the middle of a gig
