From what I've heard, this question is primarily because there's weird interactions with medicine used on some minorities or specific health concerns with that group

From what was explained when I was taking classes to be a nursing unit secretary it's because of the specific health concerns for certain ethnicities. But I could also see medicine interactions also being a factor.

I once tried explaining this to a now former acquaintance because she refused to check off Caucasian as she would go on that 'my ancestry is not from around the Caucasus Mountains', and when the nurse would tell her that's what you mark when you're white, she's insist she wasn't white but a lovely peachy pink. I can only imagine the epic eyeroll the nurse probably gave her and marked off white anyway. Turned out with talking to her, she feels marking the ethnicity box is somehow confining people into stereotypes or some such so when it comes to things like medical tests, everyone should be tested for everything despite things like sickle cell is an issue for African-Americans and Familial Mediterranean Fever's something I've had to get tested for because of my ancestry.

On the plus side she did recover enough with therapy to start eating other things and be able to sit at a table to eat with her husband.

But from having read every 'fat is beautiful' thread that's been on the forums, the description 'ooey-gooey', nourish/nourishment being used as a justification to gulp down more calories in a meal than I could eat in a week, and an adult saying 'tummy' when they're not talking to a child or being sarcastic all get on my nerves.

I don't remember who it was, but one of the guys in the photos is King poo poo of Dollfuckers and he got the doll from Lars and The Real Girl, but it didn't have an actual vagina because it was a prop for a movie. So he then paid God know how much to make his doll fuckable with an aftermarket vagina. Combine that with however much he paid for a movie prop and you're looking at down payment on a house for a lump of masturbation grade silicone. King poo poo also was pretty close with the Head Muppet Fucker who had like a dozen of the drat things in his house with his wife and adult daughter and he posed all of them for these bizarre vignettes.

That dollfucker thread in GBS was a wild ride.

You've forgotten the laugh 'til it hurts part of that story. King poo poo didn't want to shell out for the shipping costs from the States to Canada so he arranged for the doll to be delivered to another dollfucker near the border to just drive it over and ship it the rest of the way. Well, the dollfucker was so overcome by having a doll celebrity in his house, he had sex with the doll and in the boasting about it, it got back to King poo poo who pitched a fit that the doll's been despoiled since she wasn't a virgin anymore.

The dollfucker threads were crazy enough to make me finally sub after years of lurking.

I don't know all of the history, something about Carter then Reagan cutting funding, but the result was a wave of homeless psych patients who only got much much worse. So they go right back to the streets with nothing, and eventually end up in jail for various reasons and get even less care than on the streets because they're actively denied medications at times in prison (I work in a hospital that deals with state prisoners, so I hear stories all the time about some real horrors).

TL;DR: Prisons have replaced mental health care in America, sorry.

From what I'm remembering from classes, it started with Kennedy and the idea was for the big facilities to close and local communities to step up to provide care, it was over time that it escalated to the funding cuts. However no one factored in NIMBY so all the patients ended up dumped on the streets. Prisons have pretty much replaced the mental health hospitals and they're not even really equipped for this sort of thing.

I think rom coms and other romantic have caused this, because how many involve the guy screwing up in the 3rd act then coming back at the end with a boombox over their head is going to fix anything.

I'd say rom-coms and things like that have really screwed up perceptions on anything involving relationships.

When my fiance and I were dating, he thought he had to do stuff like dating milestone gifts, have to give jewelry for birthday gifts, and all that other stuff you see hyped up. It took a few sit down talks to explain that I don't care about milestone gifts, it's fine if he forgets an anniversary thing, I'm not into bed & breakfast stays, and when he asks me what I'd like for my birthday, when I say I'd like a new cooking pot or vacuum, I really want a new cooking pot or vacuum. For a special night out, dinner and a movie's more than enough. Even with those talks, he still had his friends insist he had to do the whole jewelry and flowers thing because all women want that and if they say they don't, they're lying.

For our wedding, since it's his first and my second, I'm only insisting that it be fun. If he wanted something big, then we'd go big. So we're doing a get married by Elvis in Vegas thing with close family and since the majority of our friends can't travel for it, we'll rent a place in our city for a reception with a note of gifts are nice but not necessary and make sure you come with an appetite since we're catering from a good barbecue place. We know we're likely to get an earful from friends when they hear what we're doing since we're not going the big glitzy route, but we're going with what's more in our tastes.

ToxicSlurpee's post is pretty bang on with how the wedding industry markets, though I'd say bridezillas happen as a mix of societal pressure and never growing out of being a brat. To see how really bad it is, next time you're at the grocery store, head over to the magazine rack and flip through a bridal magazine. It's insanity in print. I've had friends who are on their third and fourth marriages who still want to do the big wedding thing as if it's their first which is pretty awkward when they go on about it and all you want to say is 'why are you doing this when you're still paying off the last one?'.

Most AUG wedding I've seen was posted over in the r/relationships thread. Woman getting married had her best friend drop out of the wedding party and sent her a very detailed letter explaining why. The wedding was going to be at a plantation venue thing, best friend is African-American who's repeatedly stated for years that she wouldn't attend a plantation wedding because on a personal level due to the history and on a professional level because it would impact her job being at a plantation wedding as if it was like one being held at a random fancy venue. Woman's asking reddit for advice because she thinks her friend's overreacting because all that slavery stuff happened so long ago and she figured her friend would come around to the idea when it was getting closer to the wedding.

It's gone past AUG into AUGly.

Happy Birthday!

And here's my awkward dating story. I was in my teens at the time and as the dinner and movie part of the date had gone well, we're onto making out. Things are getting hot and heavy, and as I'm stroking him a bit, I half notice he's got some sliding skin on his penis. I'm not really thinking much of it until it slides back and doesn't slide forward. Now, granted I did have a pretty good sex ed class in school and while I was aware of the concept of the foreskin, this was my first time actually seeing one, so naturally I first thought I'd broken his penis. I begin to freak out that 'Oh God I broke your dick!' and he's confused until he realizes what happened and starts laughing. After he showed me that it will slide back, I'm now beyond mortified and convinced I've ruined the date. But it ended up being a good laugh, foreplay was resumed and the rest of the evening went well. We ended up dating for a while, and it was the running joke about 'I broke your dick!'.
