Having now played through almost the entirety of the rest of Chapter One, I can confirm this. Thankfully the game lets you save whenever and wherever you want, or I would have long ago pulled all of my hair out.

It's definitely old school. Reminds me of the first Gothic games, difficulty scale wise.

You can! I actually have showing that off ready to go in the next update, or possibly the one after that. Money isn't terribly important in this game (it is only completely necessary to finish one quest in Chapter Six, and the manual specifically warns you to save up about 100 Crowns for it), though if we were playing a Fighter I probably would be selling everything I could find so I could afford some of that black market armor Holt had. As a Mage, I prefer just amassing a collection of neat stuff and only selling things that will get a good return for the amount of inventory space they take up, or that will not be useful later.

Exactly. That Warrior is a bastard and a half before you're really set up to do damage. I have no idea how a fighter/scout would do it this early in.

Rest assured that I will find all the pants I can, my friends. Goondalf is truly a next level hero, with the ability to wear two pairs at once.

Basically also with magic. Even if you get enough money to buy the really good armor in this chapter, you don't have enough Hit and Attack Recovery training to make the slow-down worth it and you'll probably get stun locked.

I'm glad you're lping this. I remember when this game first came out, and I begged and pleaded with my mom to get it for me, because it looked so awesome. Unfortunately I never got the chance to play it, and being a broke teenager never got my hands on a copy. I look forward to the further adventures of Goondalf.

I'm happy to do it! It's actually been a blast revisiting this. I may be dying a lot, but reloading takes less than a second so it's barely even an annoyance. Sorry you weren't able to experience it directly, but I will do my best to ensure you and the rest of the audience can live vicariously through Goondalf.

I found out about it by complete accident, and had a hell of a time even getting my hands on it because this was at the end of Digital Tome. I rember it fondly as a cult classic. Maybe once the lp is finished it's possible to collaborate and try and get a copy working for goons. It's abandonware at this point, so I wouldn't see a problem with it, and Klingon probably has some great advice for getting it running. It's worth the effort in my opinion, especially if you like older games.

Goondalf, when I suggested you collect every pair of pants in Avalon, I didn't mean you to include underpants. Especially used Ogre underpants. Sheesh.

This was pretty action packed, rounding off all our sidequests nicely! I'm glad this isn't one of those games that tells you to do something in the first scene but there's no payoff until right before the endgame. I thought the hunt for Corvus would take up multiple chapters in itself.

Wasn't expecting there to be a party, either; I assumed this was Goondalf's solo triumph. Hope he finds enough pants to go around.

Yeah, it turns out the betrayal was coming from inside the walls!

This first chapter is a brilliant introduction to the game in my opinion, it really showcases a lot of new things, has a coherent and interesting plot and gives you plenty of opportunity to practice combat. Goondalf the G(oner) is gonna need that with what's coming, because now the easy part of the game is over :v:

Those pauldrons by the way are pretty nice, but I'm not sure I ever collected them. Not mage-y enough.

Another cool thing about Siege of Avalon is that a good number of quests and events have multiple payoffs throughout the game. Really makes the world feel alive. And don't worry, there are plenty of pants.

Then again, leaving him out means we get to see Goondalf's very... varied... people skills.

That last book is kind of clumsily written, when I read the first sentence I was "oh poo poo, someone is using necromancers gg" and only after reading it twice realise it meant heroes emerging from the troops after a slaughterfest battle, not actual corpses.

Haha, I see that now. I'd like to say I planned it, since literally the next update features a necromancer. They fall a bit short of the 15,000 zombie knight mark though.

Goondalf's personality seems to be starting to tick back and forth like a pendulum, these days. But then, he's living in a madhouse and being taught by a skeleton (I love this game), so it's quite understandable.

All the fame is going to his head.

Also thanks for this LP, I heard about this game and it sounded interesting because I really enjoy well-written games. I probably wouldn't enjoy playing it though because the combat seems rather unforgiving so that's what an LP is for.

It's not so bad once you get used to it and realize this really really isn't Diablo. But it's pretty bad at the start of the game, parts of the middle of the game oh yea and also the... last... part of the game you know what? Never mind.

E: Felious is such a goon :allears: and fairly stereotypical for "good" necromancers. But Bones, though, there's a champ. Also, holy loving hell I never knew about that breastplate, that is insane. Goondalf is armored to hell and back.
